toddyboman
A little background first: The MARK Twain Lake is over 18,000 acres of water and is the largest lake Northern Missouri. The construction of the Clarence Cannon Dam on the Salt River created the lake. Now fast forward to TODAY.... IT has rained like crazy all spring and summer causing the lake level to rise and rise to the point it can not hold anymore water. So the CORP has to start releasing more water. They had been releasing some for weeks. Well this past week it has rained every day and rained A LOT. So now the CORP has to up the amount they are releasing. CURRENTLY they are releasing about 260,000 gallons a second. :eek:YES A THOUSAND AND YES A SECOND. However with more rain predicted it is said they are going to have to up that to 600,000 gallons a second. I have drove over this dam and been out on the lake a million times and I have NEVER seen anything like this. We went to look tonight here are some pics.... This is a normal every day pic... Here is today. All those sandbag are the road leading into the dam Across the river they are trying to build some type of protections around the power station.... This is looking straight down over the gates... Some fishing If I could get down behind that wing wall with a pole or net I could catch A LOT!! The number of people there to see was AMAZING too. toddyboman
Update.. Went back to the Dam tonight...except this time I talked to one of the park rangers that was there to answer questions and what not... She tells me yesterday they were releasing out of the dam 38,000 cubic feet second(cfs). HOWEVER the lake was receiving 50,000 cfs. So they were making ZERO ground. Today they changed all that and starting releasing 54,000 cfs. So today they was keeping pace. There is talk to it to 70,000 cfs, which is about 600,000 gallons a second. Here is some more pics and a short video. AMAZING stuff. Wanna see what it looks like from over the edge of the dam..... YIKES:eek: Here is a video

RangerClay
Unbelievable! Thanks for sharing the pics and video. I wouldn't about flooding downstream. It's a whole lot better than the damn breaking. Todd, what kind of fish are jumping out of the water? Grass carp?

It's a whole lot better than the damn breaking. Todd, what kind of fish are jumping out of the water? Grass carp? Yes they are carp. Several people have said they are some type of Asian carp:confused:. And they are only in the river and not the lake. I really have no idea if that is true or not or just someone talking. But there is no doubt about it they are some type of carp. And there was A LOT of them.
