Don't look good...........

Yep, think the yotes were/are working on them pretty hard here Don. Sure the bobcats are not helping numbers either.

I am pretty sure the yotes we were hearing up beside the house at the edge of my neighbors field were ambushing poults. I saw a crap load of them with like 6 hens over there about a month ago after coming out of the middle of the woods where I shot at a yote with my shotgun. We had been seeing a group of 3 or 4 hens with about 30 poults pretty regular along the woods in the backyard, the number of poults has been less and less here lately, yesterday we saw 4 hens and only about 12 poults with them. Guess the poults are a bit easier pickins for the yotes and understandably targeted.

Been a bit too hot to yote hunt here, but I did try last Saturday morning with no luck. Next time I get out, thinking I may try my hen decoys in the field and some light turkey calling, but it is going to have to cool down a bit before I get back out.

I finally saw some young birds yesterday about 12 to 14 with 2 hens. It was really wet here in the early summer and alot of us were worried about poult mortality. Also saw several other groups that ran off too quickly to get a good look.

Well it sure is different here. I've gotten multiple trail cam pics of hens with polts. A fair amount of gobbler pics too. I've already gotten more trail cam pics of turkeys than I got from mid summer through winter last year. Seen plenty of hens and little ones too. Overall it looks like we had a great hatch in my neck of the woods this year.

Just a little while ago I looked out the kitchen window and saw turkeys crossing the field in back of the house. There were 6 mature hens...............and no little ones.

That don't look good. :(

Believe it or not, we had a HUGE coyote population this summer, but today i saw 3 brood hens with over 30 poults! looks good around here! hope it shapes up where u live:confused:;):D

You're right, it doesn't look good. However, no reason to abandon hope. I've seen a group of hens on the edge of a field with not a poult in sight. 10 minutes later there were at least 20 poults - they had been hiding in the tall grass I assume. Those buggers sure know how to hide out. Maybe thats what you ran into?
