craig mack
I dont know why they call it a deadline, it seems like they keep making trades for a few weeks after. I wonder if anyone is gonna get "Manny being Manny".

Born4it
Confirmed Griffey today at lunch. I've heard Dunn might end up in Tampa Bay. Not sure about the others listed. Take care, Ryan
MCH
Might change my mind on the Manny to the Dodgers now. Heard earlier this morning that we were offering Kemp, which I'm strongly against. But now, rumor has it that we're offering Ethier. Ethier is a solid player, but I'd gladly give him plus a few other prospects for Manny.
MCH
Tampa Bay just picked up Jason Bay from the Pirates for infielder prospect, Brignac.
MCH
Tampa Bay just picked up Jason Bay from the Pirates for infielder prospect, Brignac. Correction. Nothing's for sure right now. But what I'm hearing is that the Dodgers landed Jason Bay and that Manny was traded but noone's sure where......just rumors, but according the mlb.com, Bay is now a Dodger?? MCH
According to Rotoworld, the Dodgers have got Manny, the Sox have got Bay and the Pirates have gotten a couple of Dodgers players. Not sure on which ones, but if one of them is Matt Kemp, I'm officially off the Dodger bandwagon.....at least for this year.:D Or at least for this month.:D Added---Just heard that we gave up Andy Laroche and Bryan Morris. If that's the truth, I'm the happiest baseball fan in the world right now.:D:D

muggs
Great...you just picked up the worst outfielder in the majors, with an attitude problem to boot. Nice pick up for the Dodgers. That said, it should work out better than the Andruw Jones signing. The main point that you're missing Kev is that the Dodgers still don't have the pitching to win- now they've stripped their farm system. The other LA team is a lock to win the WS anyway bud. I mean, I realize your knowledge of baseball is marginal at best but I didn't realize it was that bad.
muggs
I'll agree with your last sentence. But your other two points causes you to lose a lot of credibility with me. I mean, I realize your knowledge of baseball is marginal at best but I didn't realize it was that bad. That's what people always say- then 8 months later my words ring true, everybody tries to pretend they forgot about it ala Torri Hunter vs. Andruw Jones in the first place. Food for thought bud- if the Dodgers sign Hunter- they don't have to make this trade and they can keep their prospects. And you can't argue ManRam is a terrible fielder. Remember when he cut off that throw from the centerfielder? Hehehehe...yeah, great. I'd much rather have Ethier out there. Seriously though, it's a much needed bat in the middle of that lineup, but it won't be enough. I could see if the Dodgers were actually a legit contender, but they are not. Texeira to the Angels was a much....much...MUCH bigger move, from an impact standpoint. The Angels have it all. Great manager who knows how to produce runs, power bats in the middle of their order who can hit both left and right handed pitching, the deepest starting rotation in the Bigs, and a dominate closer (and decent pen). Actually, if there's one thing that might be a chink in the armor, it's there pen, but in a short series who are you taking over them? With Manny the Dodgers have power from...um...thinking here...Manny that's it.
MCH
Here you go trying to prove a point that I didn't bring into question. Seriously, muggsy, sometimes you're just plain weird. I agree the Angels are the team to beat. I don't agree that we don't have the pitching to win and that we fleeced our farm system. Why don't you do a little research before you start spouting off opinions?? We've got great pitching. Our bullpen is top notch and our rotation is top 10 in the majors. Stripped our farm system?? We gave up two guys that didn't have a shot at being on our team for the next couple of years. Laroche was given four chances to make the ballclub. He failed on each one. Bryan Morris?? What the?? He's not even in our top 10. Andy Laroche and Byran Morris for Manny Ramirez. I could care less whether Manny bombs or not. That's a trade any team, anywhere, would pull off. But you go ahead and keep debating the Angels and the moves they make. Classic Muggsy. Sidesteps and tries to argue intelligently on a subject that is the easiest. The point is, it won't help. Manny, probably the purest hitter I've ever seen and is a huge addition to the middle of any lineup (as stated above). But the guy is a terrible teammate and is set to make 20 million bucks or so for the next two years. I just don't see it working out for the better- much like the Jones signing (as stated above). And this trade is fallout from Jones' failure. Any time you shell out as much $$ as they did for Jones, and then have to take on Manny's contract to compensate...you're not helping your ball club. There's a correlation there- if you can't see it- then I don't know what to tell you. I also didn't say the Dodgers have bad pitching- just not enough to get it done (as stated above). Typical MCH. Gets overly sensitive about the Dodgers and resorts to personal attacks and completely misses the point.
MCH
Come on Muggsy. The reason I get overly sensitive is because you see an opening to bash them and you take it without doing any research. In your initial post you spout off the Angels are better, your pitching can't win and you stripped your farm system. Only one of those is correct in my book, but when I call you on it, you debate the only opinion that I didn't dog you on??? Another reason to know a subject before you debate it: Manny is purely a renter for the Dodgers. The Red Sox are picking up his 7 million owed for this year and his two year options are null and void. We get him for 2 months and don't owe him a dime. All we do is lose Andy and Bryan. And if you truly think this doesn't help our ball club then you are definitely in the minority here.

And if you truly think this doesn't help our ball club then you are definitely in the minority here. My point about stripping their farm system was in general (including all their moves). I just don't think they're a legit contender, so I sort of disagree with the timing. But, they play in the NL West so they can win the division, so I guess they feel like they have to try- but I just don't know. The pitching stats look good on paper, but they play in a weak hitting division...and the weak hitting NL in general. Compared to what's out there I don't think they have enough. If they can add pieces to their young core, I'm sure they'll be legit for years to come though. Getting Manny, especially for a cheap price like you said, is a good move. That guys bat immediately makes a lineup better and they needed pop. But he's got serious baggage and can't field. I just don't think it will be enough. And I'm not just trying to pee on your flame of hope Kev (well, maybe just a little). With the way the Tribe's year has gone, I hope the Dodgers win the WS. Anybody but the Yanks, the BoSox, the Tigers, and the White Sox.

But that's mainly only because the division is so weak and the DBacks are pretty banged up.
