Indy-Travis
Anybody had a chance to try this yet? I have seen the add and their website, but can't find any to try.
AJ
It's very good stuff. I have bought a jug of it and, while its expensive, its the best "legal" powder I can use in muzzleloader season. I still prefer smokeless powder in my Savage, but its not legal. Anyhoo, BH208 offers great speed, accuracy, and very little fouling. Finally, there is a powder that will allow the shooter to just reload and shoot, over and over without the nasty build up of corrosive fouling. It's basically a hollow - extruded powder that is closer to smokeless than the granuals of other BP substitutes. It is a tad harder to ignite than the other powders. It is designed to take the flame and heat of the standard 209 primer to make it go bang. The reduced power "muzzleloading 209" primers do not provide adequate ignition. There have been some talk about breechplug design and this powder. Read the info on their website. I will be using BH209 in October when I go after my elk. I have a large container of Pyrodex and a few pounds of Triple7 in my box and I now need to find a way to get rid of the stuff. I have a new favorite powder. If I had a new muzzleloader that was not fired yet, it would never see the Pyrodex or Triple 7.
Guest oldmulebuck
You can buy this at several locations Cabelas Midway USA Sportsmans if you all have one.I bought it have not used it yet is still somewhat restricted here.Because some states here you are still using percussion caps.Friends of mine used it and said yes is easier to clean and so on.but really the performance is not that much different maybe 10 to 15% I thought was expensive.Hopefully you will find it and it will work for you. Indy-Travis
Found some at Sportsman's Warehouse, actually had to have them set aside a jar for me, as they said typically they get 5-6 in and they are gone within a day. Waiting for some cooler weather and a weekend off to give it a try.
AJ
It is superb ML powder. I have shot 40+ shots in my Omega without swabbing or cleaning the bore. I was at the range today working up my elk load and I had great results. I had groups of 300 gr Bonded SST/ShockWave and Barnes 290 gr TMZ bullets shoot sub MOA at 200 yards with 120 gr of BH209. This was after shooting 30+ shots without cleaning. I was able to hit kill zones on a deer size target at will from 300 yards. I would not shoot that far at elk, as 250 is my limit with a ML. Try it, you will like it.
Tominator
It is a tad harder to ignite than the other powders. There have been some talk about breechplug design and this powder. Read the info on their website. Went to their website and when you read the primer recommendation it says this: Special 209 Muzzleloading Primers (see list on next page) may not provide reliable ignition and ARE NOT RECOMMENDED. I could not find the "next page."
Indy-Travis
I saw the list, but it might have been in a magazine article, they are talking about the triple 7 primers, the Remington ML primers, and I am not sure if any other companies had the reduced charge 209s. Any standard 209 for shotgunning should work fine.

hammerforged
Got my BH 209 in and went out to the range. In my CVA Kodiak Magnum with a 185 grain Powerbelt and 120 grains of the BH 209 shot 5 - 3 shot groups at 200 yards 1" by 1.25". 200 yards is the longest shot I can take on the range here. I will take it up to Oak Ridge in Tennessee this next weekend and see what I can get at 250 and 300. So far I like what I see a bunch. Clean up was very easy and I didn't notice the degree of gunk around the bore plug either that I have with other powders like Triple 7 and Pyrodex Pellets.
