Six Legged Deer- Has 2 complete pelvises and runs on one leg from each

A six-legged deer was attacked by two dogs in northern Georgia and treated by veterinarians at Berry College.

Melissa and Alan Dunagan were out walking when their dogs chased the fawn, separating it from its mother, reported Rome News-Tribune.

Because of the injuries the fawn received, it underwent surgery and one of its two tails was amputated.

"It is really an anomaly," West Rome Animal Clinic veterinarian Dan Pate told Rome News-Tribune. "It appears it had an identical twin that didn't form all the way."

X-rays showed that the fawn has two distinct pelvises. To walk, the fawn uses one leg from each pelvis.

After saving the unusual deer's life, veterinarians are unsure what will happen but are reluctant to release the deer back into the wild.

Berry College animal science professor George Gallagher took the deer after its surgery.

He said he is hoping to avoid making the deer a "circus sideshow." He said the animal's condition prevents it from surviving in the wild.

Gallagher said the fawn has a condition that is similar to Siamese twins in humans.

Cool sight in one way ,,, but very sad in another ... :(:( I hate to say it but I would think the humane thing would be to put this fawn down ... JMHO .. :(

Yes, I agree

Wow, that is amazing. I just hope it isn't in any sort of pain. Seems like it gets around ok but wouldn't be able to run from predators, like yotes. Kinda feel sorry for the little thing.

That's why I agree with Luke. All they are going to do is make a freak show out of the poor critter.

Well since we're talking about anomalies I guess I should let you all know that I was born with webbed hands and feet. No my hands are not still webbed, but I've still got the webbed toes to prove it. :)

You're a human being, so we won't put you down yet buddy ...LOL :D

Saw part of a clip on that on the news I think on Friday, but did not hear the whole story over the kids, thought they said something about someone adopting the deer.

Seems like they could amputate the two non functioning legs, don't know why they did not do that when they amputated the one tail.
