buckee
UPDATE: Aug 16 2:00pm Praise God, they are OK Kathleen just called. She said the white-water rafting, so far, has been nothing short of one miracle after the other. The river is raging from all the rain, and neither her nor Terry, has had any whitewater rafting experience until now. It's been a Crisis situation, since they put it in the water. The bottom got ripped up really good, and the 2 patch kits, that came with it, were no good. They have taken on so much water, and had to stop to empty everything out including their gear, more than 15 times. The Rapids have been fierce and with boulders the size of Voltswagons everywhere. She was sure they would drown so many times, but just before each Boiling boulder, somehow, they would shoot up in the air, and come crashing back down, sometimes upside down, but would upright all of a sudden, like God's Hands had flipped the raft. Kathleen said that this little bird (possibly a nuthatch) would flit past here face, after many of these episodes and followed them in this way for quite some time. It was like a sign from God. She said that waterfall, wasn't actually a straight up and down waterfalls, but a 200 ft steep angled drop. They were up fighting the river until 3:00 pm last night. She said the 6 miles of gorge was the worst. This morning they saw the most magnificent caribou they have ever seen. It had shovels have the size of her, and was a magnificent sight. Near the end of our conversation, I mentioned how Kirk had won the gun auction. She said, that she thought a few times there, that there would be no gun, or be no her, but she had the gun wrapped up safe and sound, and it is in perfect condition for just going through an Alaskan adventure from ****. I was so happy to hear her voice when she called, because I was getting really worried. They have around 5 more miles to go, and a lot of portaging, but they should be out tonight, Lord willing. Thank you Lord. Here's approx, where they are now. PS - Kathleen realizes now, what a blessing it was, that they didn't get a sheep, because it most likely would have cost them, their lives. buckee
I can't wait to hear Kathleen's account of this adventure in her own words. She is so full of mixed feelings right now, ...from disappointment and failure on one hand, to total awe, and a feeling of a blessed accomplishment on the other hand, and of strength she never knew she had.. What a spectacular adventure.

Randy
I've been checking this thread everyday and although I really had hoped that Kathleen had gotten her Ram, It sounds as if it is truly a blessing in disguise that she didn't. Kathleen, as I sit here trying to imagine the trials that you have gone through, I can't imagine being in your shoes. Kathleen, your spirit and determination is amazing, you are definitely one of a kind. I look forward to getting to see the pics and hearing about your adventure in your own words. Congrats on a successful hunt and I think I can speak for all of us at RT, It is truly a pleasure to have you with us.

KirkV
Well I just got home from a get together at the neighbors and had to check this thread, I am so greatfull they made it out safe. The gun had nothing, and I mean nothing to do with it buckee. They sound as if God took care of them alright. Too bad things did not work out for them but they are dealing with nature in it's purist form up there. Kirk
buckee
UPDATE: August 16 (11:00pm) They made it out, safely. Tired, and worn out, but safely. Praise the Lord. We should hear from Kathleen again when they get home. They are still a long ways from home, but the rest is all white lines, and not white water
stevebeilgard
glad that they are safe. it was an adventure they will never duplicate. and, even though they didn't get a ram, it was a very successful hunt, and adventure, and a life changing experience. i'll bet that even knowing the end results, they'd both pack up and do it again. i sure would. the only thing i'd change is to fly both ways in & out, and spend all my time hunting. there are gravel bars all over where a super cub can land.
