Ravin R10 man
Brett, and all wrench heads....You heard of them leaking??? I was told that they all do eventually, some at only 20k miles. texastrophies
Re: Chevy engine intake gasket If you have coolant dripping, you might check your water pump, also. If it is in front could be coming from there.
shotupdeer
Re: Chevy engine intake gasket V6? The 3.1 3.4 and 3.8s are notorious for intake leaks which let coolant in the engine and can cause hydrostatic lock.
wtnhunt
Re: Chevy engine intake gasket Got 3 chevy's with 350's, one with over 200,000 and two over 100,000 and none of them have leaking intake gaskets. Have had to replace water pump and thermostat on the one with over 200,000 though.

Shaun_300
Re: Chevy engine intake gasket sure sounds like an intake gasket or waterpump gasket to me. if it is at the front of the engine, it could be the waterpump gasket. Ravin R10 man
Re: Chevy engine intake gasket No, it's off the back of the engine definately not a water pump. Its the 350 cu.in.
Shaun_300
Re: Chevy engine intake gasket it must be leaking out the intake. i cant really think of any other spots that it would be leaking out of at the back of the engine. Strut10
Re: Chevy engine intake gasket Entirely possible for a leak around the intake......especially with aluminum intakes or heads. Hint: If you end up replacing the gaskets, toss the two little short ones for the front and rear of the block. Use a neat, simple bead of blue silicone instead. Works much better. LifeNRA
Re: Chevy engine intake gasket Hopefully the freeze out plug in the back in not leaking!!!
maddhunter
Re: Chevy engine intake gasket In my opinion I would say it was a freeze plug. Have you kept antifreeze in it all the time? My brother bought a car once that water in it and all the freeze plugs were rusting out. I would rather it be an intake gasket though, you'll have to pull the engine to replace that freeze plug. And if it turns out to be the freeze plug whether you do it or have it done be sure to replace them all and have the rear main seal replaced also. And one more thing don't use the rubber expandable plugs they don't work!!!!!
brownie65
Re: Chevy engine intake gasket If it is a intake gasket repair right away. i have done tons of them & yes they are well known for leaking. I have seen some that only leaked externally, this is a good thing. Still needs fixed. The internal leak where it puts it in your engine oil is bad. I have done some that i had to replace the lifters in & the oil was like grease to drain. Might pull your dipstick & check to see if any antifreeze is getting in the oil. brownie65
Re: Chevy engine intake gasket One other thing,if you do replace the intake gaskets make sure that you properly torque the intake. These are special gaskets & can be easily damaged by over tightening.
wtnhunt
Re: Chevy engine intake gasket Martin, are you sure it is coming from the engine block? Could be a number of things. Have had everything from heater cores leak to hoses leaking. My 92 model we do not drive much leaks a little from the recovery tank after shutting the engine off and drips just enough for me to see it is leaking. It was not obvious it was leaking from the tank, because the fluids slow dripped and ended up near being under the rear of the engine.
