FSU_Seminole
Wow! I went home today for lunch & was channel surfing. I flipped to Versus. It was a hunting show on there I've never seen before. Its called "Best of the West". These guys hunt with rifles & obviously they hunt with the big boys "magnums". I was shocked at the distances they were taking animals. This one guy shot an Elk at 800.................yes 800 yards. Not 800 feet. 800 YARDS. How long has this show been on TV & what calibur rifles are these guys using? If you saw the show today or this past Saturday please do give details. wtnhunt
Seen the show several times, it comes on Sunday nights too. Some pretty unreal shots some of those guys pull off. They have their own line of custom rifles that they sell. The show really is kind of like one big infomercial for their "shooting system" their own custom gunworks and huskemaw optics in my opinion, but still kind of entertaining when nothing better is on. Strut10
Yep. Seen it. those guys pull off some incredible long-range stuff. I think the one coyote they shot was something like 1030 yards. That's a loooooong way and a small target. They use accurized Remington 700's. I think they're built by Gunwerks. You can get one just like it for $3500 - $6000. The round they developed for their own purposes is nothing more than a 7mm STW with the shoulder moved around a little bit. They shoot Berger VLD bullets. Amazing what can be done with a good rifle, a good scope, a good handload and an accurate ballistics program.

I thought that Elk was between 350-400 yard when he said 800 I nearly fell out of my chair. That's just crazy!!! BTW Strut I'm about to pull the trigger on a 300 WSM. I tried to put a deposit on 1 I fell in love with this past Sunday but Sportsmans Warehouse here doesn't accept deposits anymore. They make you pay the entire thing at once. That sucks but oh well I'll get her in a few weeks.

doubleA
Amazing what can be done with a good rifle, a good scope, a good handload and an accurate ballistics program. Those are my sediments also and I'll also throw in the person behind the rifle. If anyone of those dont their part..... well, success aint going to happen. One has to spend alot of time behind the trigger, know your equipment and ballistics very well and even have a little luck on their side to be consistant with LR accuracy. The show sort of portrays it in a way it's just a matter of having one of there guns and a range finder and simply dial in and shoot. Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, nothing comes easy and long range shooting is no different. It's going to take alot of time, money and skill to do it consistantly. Personally, I enjoy bowhunting at close range but also enjoy shooting paper and steel at long range but prefer not to shoot game animals at distance with rifles. Have various big boomers but these are the ones I try to shoot on a weekly basis. .338 Lapua .50 BMG (new acquire) .

TexasDeerHunter
Love the show, you need to get their video by host and rifle builder John Burns. It's called "Beyond Belief"
