Strut10
Anyone running one of them?? What are your impressions?? I'm looking to buy a new sub-compact. I'm leaning really hard toward the BX1850 Kubota. I happened to look at a Mahindra 1815HST. Wasn't initially impressed by the machine or the price. But thought I'd see what somebody else maybe knew that I didn't.
wtnhunt
Probably a good time to buy Don, kubota has run 0 % apr deals the past few years around this time and the current model years can probably be bought a bit cheaper to make room for next years models. I have the BX2230, been pretty happy with it so far, but honestly kind of wish I had gone a step up to the compact b series rather than the subcompact just for the lift capacity differences. Fortunately I do have a bigger kubota for handling bigger jobs, but wanted to do more with the little one in the garden where my bigger tractor is at times a little too big. There are a couple mahindra dealers around here. Have really not heard much about them to be honest, but a man up the road has a compact one and I know earlier this year my neighbor borrowed it to spread gravel with a straight blade and he had issues with it overheating. kidd
have you looked at a Deere I have a 855 23 horse and would not trade it for the world (jmho)
Strut10
have you looked at a Deere Absolutely not. There's one company that owns every Deere dealership within 100 miles of here. They are not much of a bunch to deal with IMO. That eliminates Green from my list of options right up front.
wtnhunt
Have you looked at the specs on them Don, if not go here http://kubota.com/f/products/bx1850.cfm, you can click on the comparison and view the pdf, it will show a few different tractors in the same class. Here is a link to the mahindra too http://www.mahindrausa.com/tractorDetails.php?p_ID=155, looks like it has a considerably higher lift capacity than others in the subcompact class, however the mahindra is a bit heavier and bigger tractor according to the specs provided, not sure if it is in the compact or subcompact class. Strut10
Yep. I have all the brochures with specs, etc. actually ran both machines. The Mahindra compared to the Kubota would be like a Mossberg 935 compared to a Browning Gold. The 18 hp Mahindra is a larger machine (which works against what I need it for at the tree farm) than the Kubota. The tires are almost twice the size of the orange tractor's. What I noticed about the Mahindra was the lack of ergonomics in control placement and an overall cheapness to the way things were done. The Mahindras all also have the drivetrain coming right back betewwn your feet rather than a flat decked operator's surface on the Kubota. All the while, I figured the Mahindra would be a grand or two cheaper than the Kubota. Uh-uh. $1950 more. I called the guy this morning. I'm going orange. Got a sweetheart deal on an '07 tractor with 60 hours on it.
wtnhunt
That is cool Don, congrats on the new kubota. When I bought my bx2230 in 2006, the dealer had just gotten one of the 2350's in, think the 1850 is pretty much the same thing, just less hp. They are nice little tractors. Think the newer ones like the one you are getting have a little higher lift capacities than the model I have too.
Strut10
What I'm ending up with is an '07 BX1850 with only 60 hours, a 48" mower deck, loaded rear tires and a front loader for $100 less than an '08 (new) tractor set up the same minus the loader. Tominator
I think you'll like that Kubota Don. Up until this past week, my Kubota was bullet proof. Unfortunately I had a couple power steering lines develop leaks which had to be repaired to the tune of $300, but other than that, she runs like a charm. I have the BX1800. Strut10
It won't be lonely, anyhow. It'll be the 3rd orange tractor on the tree farm now.
dogdoc
i think you'll be happy with the Kubota. I have a L3400 and the only time it let me down was when I was clearing some downed limbs from an ice storm and a limb hit my fuel filter and busted it. Ran out of diesel (didn't know it was busted). One piece of advise--never never run out of diesel. Those buggers are hard to get primed to get back started. todd

buffett1
We have 2 New Hollands, a 92 hp for the big jobs and a 28 hp Boomer for the smaller stuff. The local place had unbeatable financing at the times of purchase, but they are great machines. I woud suggest taking a look at them. Went inside and couldn't even find anyone to talk to. Can't believe you can't step on the lot and not have a salesman jump on you like a chicken on a junebug. Don't know how they sell anything. The company is an old one, been in business about as long as tractors! They use to make jeeps for the U.S. military in the Pacific during WW II! They were/are very durable and dependable!
