ok people i decided on the 22-250 over the .204 and i've narrowed it down to the Savage Varmint 12fv or the remington 700 sps varmint. Both are heavy barreled and weigh about the same. savage comes in 1 in 12 twist and rem comes in 1 in 14. i dont plan on hand loading now because i simply dont know how (but i plan to learn in future). WHICH WOULD YOU GUYS/GALS PICK?? both cost about the same 20 dollar difference

I would try to get a chance to handle and pull the trigger on both. I like remington shotguns, don't have any modern rifles but shoot a lot of civil war musket competition. The decider for me would be the trigger pull - I think that is an important feature. The savage is adjustable I think and that would lead me to that one given no handling of the gun.

Never discount the Remington 700. They are a fabulous rifle. That being said, I am a fan of Savage too.

You can buy custom triggers for the Remington as well as tons of different barrel options. They are easily customized and deadly accurate. I have always been a fan of the 700 (just stay away from the 710 and 770).

The savage line has pumping out some great rifles. Even the old 110's are accurate shooters. If you decided to pickup a Savage it would serve you well.

Personally I would go with the Remington 700 but thats mainly due to experience. For many, many years shooters have sought after the 700's for custom rifles.

I think Savages are butt ugly. :(

Butt ugly has never stopped me from having a gun that works well. My Browning A-bolt Stainless Stalker is butt ugly.

I would lay money that the Savage will shoot tighter groups than the Rem out of the box. I've seen some darned awesome shooting Savages lately.

I have a older (pre-accutrigger) savage 112 with a heavy stainless fluted barrel in .22-250 and a newer 700 sps varmint in .204.

Both guns are pretty much stock...if I were shooting on a bet...the 700 wouldn't leave the safe. The Savage is a "go to" tack driver with even factory ammo.

To be fair...I've been behind the Savage a heck of alot more than the Rem.
