Guest du9207
ok people i decided on the 22-250 over the .204 and i've narrowed it down to the Savage Varmint 12fv or the remington 700 sps varmint. Both are heavy barreled and weigh about the same. savage comes in 1 in 12 twist and rem comes in 1 in 14. i dont plan on hand loading now because i simply dont know how (but i plan to learn in future). WHICH WOULD YOU GUYS/GALS PICK?? both cost about the same 20 dollar difference
Guest du9207
HERE ARE LINKS TO SEE THEM http://www.savagearms.com/12fv.htm http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_rifles/model_700/model_700_SPS_varmint_specs.asp
terry264
Personally I'd go with the Savage with the accutrigger and the 1:12 twist, for sure.
doubleA
Personally I'd go with the Savage with the accutrigger and the 1:12 twist, for sure. ^DITTO THAT^ if given those 2 choices, though the Savage stock is worthless.
Predator
I would try to get a chance to handle and pull the trigger on both. I like remington shotguns, don't have any modern rifles but shoot a lot of civil war musket competition. The decider for me would be the trigger pull - I think that is an important feature. The savage is adjustable I think and that would lead me to that one given no handling of the gun.
Jeramie
Never discount the Remington 700. They are a fabulous rifle. That being said, I am a fan of Savage too. You can buy custom triggers for the Remington as well as tons of different barrel options. They are easily customized and deadly accurate. I have always been a fan of the 700 (just stay away from the 710 and 770). The savage line has pumping out some great rifles. Even the old 110's are accurate shooters. If you decided to pickup a Savage it would serve you well. Personally I would go with the Remington 700 but thats mainly due to experience. For many, many years shooters have sought after the 700's for custom rifles.
wtnhunt
Don't think you could go wrong with either.
Strut10
I think Savages are butt ugly. Butt ugly has never stopped me from having a gun that works well. My Browning A-bolt Stainless Stalker is butt ugly. I would lay money that the Savage will shoot tighter groups than the Rem out of the box. I've seen some darned awesome shooting Savages lately. Jeramie
I've seen some darned awesome shooting Savages lately. And that being key. Do you know if they stepped up quality or something? They sure are getting a lot of good PR.
Strut10
Not exactly sure when Savage's "new era of enlightenment" came to be. But their reputation for accuracy has been growing for 10-15 years, I'd guess.
toddyboman
personally I am a big Remington fan. So I would go with the Remington. The trigger on the Remington can be adjusted very easily. Good luck in your decision
Shaun_300
I'm also a big Remington fan! Of those two I'd definetly go with the 700! Here's my BDL .22-250 Rem with the varmint barrel. It's an absolute tack driver, if you miss with it, it's definetly not the gun's fault.
Guest du9207
hey shaun 300 do you have any pics of groups you have put together with your rem while at range???
toddyboman
Here is a group I shot earlier this year with my Rem VS 223.
bluelund79
I would shoulder both weapons, and see which one FEELS best to you....I'd go for the Savage, just my opinion.
snapper
I have a older (pre-accutrigger) savage 112 with a heavy stainless fluted barrel in .22-250 and a newer 700 sps varmint in .204. Both guns are pretty much stock...if I were shooting on a bet...the 700 wouldn't leave the safe. The Savage is a "go to" tack driver with even factory ammo. To be fair...I've been behind the Savage a heck of alot more than the Rem.
