ildrhntr
Just wondering how long it takes most taxidermist's I took my 2001 Gobbler to the taxidermist in May of 2001 for a full strut mount and it is still in his freezer. I would take it somewhere else but I paid in advance and he has a no refund policy,

okiedog
I used a new taxi this last year. He told me 6 month turn around time, I'am a little over 8 months now and I'am getting anxious.

artisticwhitetails
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but........... IMO this guy doesnt plan on doing your bird......NEVER! There is no excuse for this, NONE! Ive never even heard of someone taking that long on a mount. You made an error by paying in full up front, now that he has your money there's no motivation to finish the mount. Sounds to me like he's a complete hack. I would call him and demand my bird back {if it's even any good at this point} and a full refund. If he gives you any flack about it, threaten to haul his butt into small claims court. Bet if you do some checking around, you will find you are one of many who has been stiffed by this guy. Il. better business bureau or the Il. DCNR would be a good place to start. LifeNRA
Just wondering how long it takes most taxidermist's I took my 2001 Gobbler to the taxidermist in May of 2001 for a full strut mount and it is still in his freezer. I would take it somewhere else but I paid in advance and he has a no refund policy, Wait! He has had this bird in his freezer for SEVEN YEARS!!! I would be severely ticked off at this point, tell him to give you your money back or you will be contacting a lawyer! Because you can tell him that it does not take seven years to have a mount done! I would almost bet too that your bird is no longer any good to work on, but I am no taxidermist either!
Nick
Since we are one the subject.....what is the longest you should wait before demanding your animal back?? My bird has been at the taxidermist for 3 years and at 1 year, he told me he would be done in a couple months, but its still not done. Im at a point now, to if I call him and he says it will be done in 2 months, i'm going to tell him, " I'll give you 4 months and if its not done, I want my bird and deposit back so I can take it to somebody who will finish the mount". Does this sound like the right way to handle the situation?
artisticwhitetails
Nick, I would only give him 2 months. He owes it to you to put what he's doing now on hold and finish your mount. JMO.
OUTDOORLIFE3
that is rediclious...my new taxidermist takes just a lil over 6 months, but i have had a few that take about a year and 1/2...so i would definately complain or get a refund and take it else where
Dakota
Seven years...now that's just uncalled for! I got my bull to the taxidermist antlers, cape and all by November and got in back in early February. A better turn around rate that I had expected. Adjam5
Wow! I thought I waited along time... waiting 6 months for a deer head! To me anything over a year for a busy Taxidermist is absolutely unacceptable. Take a few steps to get your $ back and your game animal. Then get the name of the useless Taxidermist out there so no one uses him:mad: Good Luck.
RWTaxidermy
I will chime in here, I personally agree with artisticwhitetails and others that your taxidermist does not intend mounting your turkey, 7yrs is way too long, and NEVER,NEVER pay for any work in full up front. I dont know all the details about the taxidermist who has your bird but being a taxidermist myself I will tell you 7yrs is unacceptable, 1-1.5yrs is very acceptable for someone doing this business full time. Also I work on all mounts and complete them in the order they were received this insures the customer gets his mount back in a timely manner. Did you sign a contract? If so did the contract say NO REFUNDS PERIOD? or did it say no refunds after conmencement of work? Either way you are entiltled to your money back being that the bird is still in his freezer untouched! Contact a Lawyer with your problem also contact your local DNR, I am suprised the DNR has not questioned this matter during inspections. Good luck! fly
Jarvis taxidermy in IL does great work, but informed me (up front) it would be 3 years before I got my deer head back. I'd never wait that long so I went with a guy that stated 6 months. I called at 6 months and it wasn't done. He stated another month or 2. I called at 8 months. It still was not done so I asked why. His explanantion was acceptable. It was almost 1 year before I got the mount back. Sometimes unexpected events come up (family/health issues). However, I'd be taking legal action long before 7 years went by. It's so important to take game to established/trusted taxidermists.
hunter336
I shot a grey fox back in November 1998 during archery season and I didn't get it back until November 2001. I dropped it off at a highly recommended taxidermist from WV who said it would take a year. Right now I am waiting on a gobbler that I dropped off at the new taxidermist that I am using from VA. It has been one year and four months. When I dropped off this years gobbler I talked to him about it. He said he just had to paint the head. Maybe this one will get done soon.
