Guest jduffy03
I was interested in starting to record videos of my hunts (and my friend's hunts) and looking at buying a video camcorder. Does anyone have any suggestions on a brand or features that I should consider when buying? (i.e. the amount of optical zoom; sd or hd technology, etc.) I would like to buy something that is going to do a pretty good job for me and will keep me happy for some years, but don't want to have to sell a kidney to buy one! What do any of you guys use? Will it look to be the same level of quality/resolution that is saw on TV hunting shows? Any suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks! Jorden
The Canon GL and GL2 are ones that a lot of people on tv use but those can get kind of pricey. I have a sony handycam that works pretty well and is half the price. As far as specs I would go with sd because it is often cheaper and you dont lose much with quality. Also you want to look more at optical zoom rather than digital zoom. Lastly, you want to look at the lux. The lower the lux, the better the camer will perform in lower light conditions, which is what you will need for hunting. Hope that helps. wtnhunt
Using a sony handycam minidv here, and been pretty pleased with it. Got my first kill on tape with it last season with the ml, and it turned out pretty nice for home viewing and sharing. Technology is great, cams are getting better and better.
