crazylegz70
My gf and I are looking at buying 5 acres and i walked a little bit of the property today. It seems to have ALOT of pine needles on the ground and the growth of alot of ground cover is scarce for the most part? Keep in mind that these trees are upwards of 60 feet tall so I dont know that I could remove them by myself. any ideas of something that I could plant that would grow well in this type of condition? Like I said, there does seem to be various growth, but the ground is pretty sandy and COVERED with needles. I am hoping that clearing the trees is not my only option. crazylegz70
actually, i did some research and this is what the trees are.... "red, white and jack pines that tower more than 50 feet high"
dogdoc
you contact a local county forester agent and have them look at your place and get an opinion. Personally I think you'll need to remove some to get any substantial food plot growth.

Tominator
kind awhat I was thinkin' I really like them and I am not sure that I can drop them by myself tho Dropping them's not the problem. Removing the roots are the problem. Pretty sure most evergreens have very shallow root systems. This could be a real headache if you want a good food plot. It can be done, it will just take a lot of work.
crazylegz70
i was just thinking about the whole thing. I guess even if i didnt get to plant my food plot, it would be nice just to have a yard. The pine trees are 10 foot from the back of the house. Not only dangerous, but very bad on the shingles.
