hammerforged
I just discovered a yellow jacket nest in my back yard! Need advice on how best to get rid of them.
texastrophies
Kill'em. We have them all the time in this area, just get some wasp spray (the kind that has a 20 foot range) and hit them with that.

It's best to wait until dusk when they are not quite as active though.

dartonman
Here is my treatment for these things....my wife was severely, I mean severely stung last year by these things, this is the most effective way (only took one time only) to get rid of them............make sure they dont have an exit, if they do, block it at night....then confirm the "official" entrance, which you probably already have....take a road flare, light the flare at dusk, or dark, so everybody is home...stuff it in the hole, and let it burn itself out......the smoke and sulfur kill them dead, dead, dead................I have never been so happy was to be successful the first time I did this................al
Adjam5
WD-40 works great! It is alot cheaper also than the other bug killer sold at stores. I use it on all the nests I find on my trailer up at my hunting camp. Yellow jackets, wasps and hornets have no chance up against WD-40:D
wtnhunt
Use wasp spray or a water gun(the super soaker type) with dawn dish soap on them. Wasp spray at the nest will kill the ones that are not there when they return. Never tried wd-40 on a nest, don't really like to get any closer to them than I have to since wasp and bee stings give me allergic reactions. Think I would possibly try d-man's suggestion for a yellow jacket nest, but be careful. Had to pick up another can of wasp spray this morning here, got wasps in one of our blinds that I need to get rid of, found out the other morning when one stung me just above my wrist when I was about half way up the ladder. nativetexan
Whatever you do, make sure you kill the ENTIRE nest. My buddy had one next to his house that he (after trying some of the tactics on here) ended up calling an exterminator. The guy did his thing then dug up the nest and it was upwards of 4 ft. long by 3 ft. wide. He had ivy growing on the side of his house and down into the bed that was next to the house. They built it under the ivy. Darndest thing I had ever seen. Randy
Got a shop vac? Suck them buggers out of there and spray a little wasp killer in the hose periodically it works great, they have to walk out of the hole before they can fly and the vac will get them... BTW, wait til dark and you'l get them all.
