ildrhntr
Below are a few lines from Obama's books; In his words! From Dreams of My Father:'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.' From Dreams of My Father :'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.' From Dreams of My Father: 'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.' From Dreams of My Father: 'It remained necessary to prove which side you were on, to show your loyalty to the black masses, to strike out and name, names From Dreams of My Father: 'I never emulate white men and brown men whose fates didn't speak to my own. It was into my father's image, the black man, son of Africa , that I'd packed all the attributes I sought in myself , the attributes of Martin and Malcolm, DuBois and Mandela.' And FINALLY the worst one of ALL of them!!! From Audacity of Hope: 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.' wtnhunt
Have not read his books and cannot see me supporting his cause by forking over $14 from barnes and noble or amazon for a copy. Have however read some reviews and seen comments on perceptions of how some view the content of his work that go along with these same excerpts. Some make the assumption that Obama's church and reverend Wright fit right in given some of the content of his writing. Kind of hard not to see things for what they are, amazes and also saddens me that so many are blind.

You can say that again, I consider myself as one of the younger generation of voters (30 years old) and even I can see his warped views. Why can't the rest????? MagnoliaHunter
Wtnhunt, I'm not trying to be a smarta@# but I know of several things on snopes that are incorrect. Has ANYONE here read the book?
Hoosierbuck
I have not read his books, and the snopes link does provide context, real or not, that mitigates the quotations. The guy is bad enough, I don't think we need to fib to find plenty of truly unsettling material regarding the good senator. I am not a huge fan of dishonesty, even when it is perpetrated against someone I don't particularly care for. No offense to the op'er, he didn't invent this stuff. I agree on snopes not always being accurate, however as I initially posted you can view for yourself and make your own determination. As best as I can tell from my own research without having read the books, the quotes are for the most part accurate and while they may be claimed to be taken out of context they are still what they are. Only other thing I know to tell you is to maybe check the books out from your local library and see for yourself if they have the quotes and draw your own conclusion to the context's, these books are also all available used at amazon.com, I just looked them up.
