billkay
Anyone have any cures or prevention ideas for these critters? Between poison ivy, ticks, and chiggers, I have been about eaten up this summer.
wtnhunt
Guess the best prevention would probably be to use a repellant sprayed anywhere you would have contact with grass where they are picked up, think deet repels them and I know permethrin based insecticides also repel them. For getting rid of them once you have them, if all else fails may consider trying a lice shampoo, it will kill the mites.
oldksnarc
Once you got chigger bites swabbing the bite with alcohol and then cover with a dab of your wife's clear finger nail polish.
Leo
Treat the clothing you are going to wear in chigger infested areas with PERMANONE. PERMANONE is multiple times more effective than sprays that only contain permithrin. I'm absolutely positive about this. It makes a HUGE difference. PERMANONE wins hands down. Repel makes a spray with PERMANONE in it you can buy at Wally World. A&D diaper rash ointment really helps relieve small out breaks of poison ivy. If you get a really bad case cortisone is the best option. Be careful using Hydrocortisone ointments. Do not use them longer than 1 week ever. They are a steroid and you will likely start to have some kind of side effects if you use hydrocortisone longer than that.
MCH
Anyone have any cures or prevention ideas for these critters? Between poison ivy, ticks, and chiggers, I have been about eaten up this summer. Billybob, right after you get out of your truck, stop, spin around 10 times, then while patting your head and rubbing your belly say "Wugga, wugga, wugga" 20 times. Once you're done with this, then you can spray down with Deep Woods Off on your socks and legs and then Permanone on your pants and clothes and you should be good to go. If you're in a hurry, you can skip the Deep Woods Off.:D

Predator
Permanone works well to kill them on clothes. It kills them, not just repelling them. I usually hit the socks and the long pants. Duct tapeing the cuff of your jeans to the top of your boot is added protection. You go around once normally then wind more tape off backwards until you reach full circle, fold a bit for a tab to remove. The chiggers that hit the glue on the duct tape go no where. I've had the tape become light brown from so many chiggers in certain areas of South Jersery. Avoid any dry grass or thick brush if you can. Dakota
Once you got chigger bites swabbing the bite with alcohol and then cover with a dab of your wife's clear finger nail polish. Ah, that reminds me of a time at church camp a few years ago...yes this is a clean story! :D Several of us were eaten up bad, especially those who did a lot of hiking, and "Dale" was eaten up especially bad. Well, I see him at dinner one evening there at camp sitting w/ his girlfriend "Lisa" and she's putting the finishing touches on Dale's legs with her nail polish remover! It wasn't a pretty sight! Ah, good times...good times. Yeah, Bill, I was eaten out in the Black Hills this summer again as well. Dakota
