wtnhunt
Might check out the rock river varmint uppers http://www.rbprecision.com/rock_river_arms_ar15_rifles.htm. Went with the complete rifle from rock river here, it is a .223 wylde chambering, will shoot 5.56 or .223, accuracy guarantee is 3/4 inch moa @ 100 yards. Hoosierbuck
http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=74755 That thread has a pic of the set-up I went with. DPMS upper and lower. 20" SS bull barrel, in .223. Remember that .223 and 5.56 are not the same, and if you want to shoot .223 ammo at ranges of 450 yards, you will need a rifle chambered in .223. As I understand it, the 5.56 is the NATO spec chamber, which allows for higher pressure and longer chamber throat than the SAAMI spec .223. What this means is that 5.56 ammo MAY be a tad long to fit in a .223 chamber, and when it is forced to fit, the chamber can pinch the end of the case and create a tighter crimp, which will cause pressure to spike above SAAMI spec. The flip side is that with a 5.56 chamber, the leap from the case to the rifling will probably not be ideal for best accuracy with .223 ammunition. I have not seen any 5.56 match ammo, and .223 match ammo is widely available. HB
wtnhunt
The varmint model rifle I ended up going with is very similar to hoosierbuck's dpms, however it is chambered in .223 wylde, rock river does sell complete uppers in this configuration as well, the link I gave in my previous reply has both. I bought the rock river varmint complete rifle with 20 inch heavy wilson air gauged barrel. From what I understand jp enterprises offers barrel chamberings in the .223 wylde, shilen also offers barrels in this chambering. You may want to take a look through this http://forums.gunbroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=164805 explanation on the .223 wylde chambering or maybe someone else here might be able to give a better explanation for you than what I can. Adjam5
I also like the Rock River line. I have one on a Stag Arms lower and it performs flawlessly.
Rinky
I just got my ar-15 from DPMS its the panther sweet 16, its got a free-floated heavy stainless steel barrel with an a3 flat-top and no fixed front sight. at 100 yards im already shooting 1/2 inch groups with no load development as of yet and a really (and i mean really) ****** barska scope that is soon to be replaced with a nikon. DPMS from what i have read has always been well-known for accuracy and customer satisfaction. Their pricing is also well below other comparable sellers.
