jaret
Ever since I known my wife, I've tried to talk her into going with me hunting just to watch to see if maybe it's something she'd be interested in maybe taking up. She's a hairstylist so she's a girly girl. I've gotten the occasional "nah that's ok" to "uhhh I dunno". Well here recently I've been talking to her about it, and she actually said yes! I asked her many times after that and the answer surprisingly is still yes. Part of me wants her to go, but the other is kinda like "I won't see a thing with her" LOL:D. I love her to death, but she likes to talk and I dunno just sitting in a spot for a couple hours without speaking would help her lol:rolleyes:. Plus if she gets cold I know she won't stand still. So for you guys that maybe got your wives involved in the sport or your daughters, do you have any advice?
Birddog3
Take her.. What's the worst outcome? She doesn't like it? You may be suprised just be patient and teach her the ropes. I have been chasing bucks for the last twenty years. The ex never understood the passion. We went a few times but it wasn't for her. I accepted the fact that it wasn't for her but she never tried to understand my passion for the outdoors. I always kept trying though as it is much nicer to have an extra warm body at night. I now sit for hours with my 5 year old daughter and she loves it. I used to kills bucks with my 8 year old stepson too. My 5 year old is now 7 and her little sister can't wait to go. Give it a shot at least you can ay you tried if anything else. I am looking forward to the day I meet someone who shares the same passion that I do. Some will come and some will go but the passion will live forever.
rhine16
Take her! I took my girlfriend many times last year though i never figured she'd go. Actually killed a doe. She doesn't love it, but she doesnt hate it either. Sees it as an opportunity to spend time with me. If she were to mess it up, then that was just meant to happen.... Then you know it isn't for her
superguide
Take her or she might find someone else who will lol. My middle daughter is pretty much a girlie girl but she went out in -30 and killed her whitetail buck last season-got a nice 180 mulie buck too. She doesn't like to kill does though. HOYTnMUZZYboy
Whats the worst thats gonna happen? Wish I could find a girl that likes to go hunting. Ha try finding that in Northern Illinois. I may regret this but... If someone can find me a girl thats in to me as much as shes into hunting in my area il give up my best stand during the peak of the rut. haha. It was kinda nice tho to get away and be on my own for a few hours. But seriously it could awesome for you! Then after awhile if she really gets into it, it could be something you both look forward to every year.
Predator
Having done it here's some things I did well and would do better: Did Well: We started with Turkey in the Spring. Not too cold. Used a pop up blind together. Made sure she understood I had not hunted turkey much so don't expect much, just enjoy the woods. She got one the first year and every yr since. Bug control - use permanone, bug suits, Off or whatever works. Help her as much as possible to prep for the safety course. Be sure she's confident in shooting ability. Do over: When Deer hunting be sure she brings an extra layer, maybe 2 until she gets the hang of how much she needs. Don't go by what you need. Use a small back pack. And if she insists in the beginning that she knows she does not need more, then you carry the extra layer. No fun having to go back to the truck at prime time. You will need to pay for stuff that fits her. No short cuts on gear - same as yours. Tell her part of the deal is you have to take the advice given for the first year. Tell her you can ask why but don't argue. After that let her make her own mistakes becuase you won't win the argument . Also for deer try to stay with her until she gets one. When she's more experienced, use the talkabouts to stay in touch. She'll want to try spots you don't want to set up at. But be sure she knows to talk only when it is hunting related or an emergency. Some lessons will be learned the hard way. A classic was the radio transmission, after setting her in a better spot, in a very frustrated and too loud tone : "I don't see any deer over here" and she immediately hears the deer snort behind her stand. Include her in the scouting so she understands the hunt is half scouting and the work involved. Make sure it's always fun and an adventure. wtnhunt
Take her to a spot you know you will see deer and when the conditions are good.
HUNTINGMAN
Take her and start her out like you would a young kid, start her off in a ground blind and let her take a book and blanket or some other thing to keep her occupied. As the experiences get more exciteing and the game sightings get greater the more intersted she will be.This is what me and my wife were doing at the start of her hunting, she takes her palm pilot and camera with snacks and drinks. She gets a little bored when things are slow but when game starts moveing I have to ask her to move from the windows so I can see because she gets so excited.I dont mind haveing someone to keep me company sometimes, and it is nice to have someone help pack in the gear. fly
1. Be patient and plan the hunt according to her physical ability and interest. 2. Make it all about her experience and not harvesting an animal (that will come later if she likes it). 3. You have to take her since you've been asking her to go. As others mentioned take her when you will likely see game.

jbaker
Last season I took my 10 yr old daughter with me, she is a natural chatter box,she was bored at first then once we saw the first buck, she was great. I did most of the whispering explaining things to her. It was a small six pointer that I had no interest in taking. But her outlook and interest changed 100%. She was excited and was full of questions. It is a great time when I can share my love of hunting with her. Her mom and older sister are the girly girls and don't want anythig to do with it. bruse
Take her. I took my wife and she loved it. She even started buying her own guns. The best part was when she went with me and 4 buddies on a hunt one day. She was the only one to get one that day and boy did she rub it in. It was a small 4pt but omg she talked trash to all of us. we still laugh about even if it was 5 years ago.
muzzy916
I got my girlfriend hunting 2 years ago. They only way she hunts is if she is in a blind and sit all day. Her and my mom go out and bring enough stuff to get them though the day as far as food and water. I may have gotten lucky with her but so far she loves it so much i just bought her a new bow, a .17 mach 2 for squirells and i gave her my 870 20gauge. She is starting to hunt by her self this year she is doing great. The only bad thing about it is, is that i spend double the money on hunting stuff but its all worth it and i guess spending double on hunting stuff is the best thing to spend double on
Mach1
Have her take the video camera and video the hunt. That's how I got my wife into hunting and now she likes going. She watching hunting shows with me on TV and we discuss whether we would shoot the deer on TV or not. We've been together for 5 years and she's starting to get pretty good at judging deer. She's been carrying a gun during firearm season for a couple years now, but hasn't had a deer come by she wants to take yet. She says she's holding out for a 150+ for her first deer. And then she says she may quit then.I won't let her do that, even now that I've got a 4 month old little boy who will be going in a few years. Guest deerchica
This is so funny, because the first thing I thought, was is THIS my husband asking this question. And I just happen to work in a salon too:p My whole life my dad tried to get me to go hunting and just never wanted anything to do with it. Once my son got old enough to hunt, I started going and eventually started filming and taking pics and now just absolutley love it. Sure she might spook a few deer at first, but like myself, she will learn, talking and moving around just dont work. This is my 5th or 6th year going "along" and I am finally going to give bowhunting a shot(no pun intended). Both my son and husband have been trying to get me to bowhunt for a couple years now. She will love the peace of not listening to women talk all day if anything. Thats my favorite part.
WestKyTeacher
Take her, my wife learned to shot a 22 and the first time in the stand she took a nice 11pt buck with a 30-30. She had on tennis shoes and a pink shirt! I was so ticked that we wouldn't see anything and she spotted this buck walking in and made the shot. Just be warned, most women can out shoot men...they have a more steady hand.
sskybnd
i'd take to a spot that you know she is most likely to see and shoot a deer, id try to make it as enjoyable as possable, and she just might want to go hunting more, and if you have a deer camp, there isnt nothing better than to curl up to a nice warm body after a long day of hunting when its cold. Adjam5
Thats a blessing and a curse at the same time:rolleyes:. Take her hunting, see how it works out, she might become a good hunter and put you to shame:p. Women can concentrate the fluids in their eyes better than men can, so they are inherently better shots than us. Be careful, don't make any bets ...yet! What I love about hunting is... it takes me away from the everyday doldrums...like hearing my wife:D. She's great, I love her, lets me hunt whenever I want and I mean whenever...any state too. But I don't need that voice in a tree too at 5am, and Ohhh...not to mention that they can't do #1 off the tree stand and boy can they need to do #1 very often:rolleyes: . If my wife and I are around each other too much we argue. A week for me up at the hunting camp brings me home and relaxed...that is until she starts breaking my shoes again:D...then back up to the cabin:p

GWSmith
...So for you guys that maybe got your wives involved in the sport or your daughters, do you have any advice? Think of it this way...if she likes it you have your best friend with you more often. If she does not like it...You get to keep all the gear you had to buy!!! Pop-up ground blind, heater, comfortable chair,...even the ear plugs:D

Dubie
I've been trying to take my fiancee hunting since we met. She did come for a few hours of waterfowl hunting with me once, but didn't enjoy the walk in the marsh or the carrying of dead geese.... Dawg
Here is the plan I have been working on: First off, my wife needs to work for the humane soceity, no joke, she loves animals. So of course she doesn't like to hunt but she LOVES to eat backstrap. Soooo, I have killed a deer or two per season and of course the backstrap goes quick. So I'm thinking about going out this season but not taking a deer for the first month or so. This way she will get the itch for some backstrap and I can say "Well baby, if there were two of us out there it would double our chances on getting you some backstrap!!":D I doubt it will work but it's worth a shot!
