mule659
I'm wondering if anyone here shoots their release off the string. I went to the pro shop today and shot the new Bowtech 82nd Airborne and am really thinking about picking it up. I have a short draw length...26.5 if I am using a loop. The lowest modules they have in for the 82nd is for a 27 inch draw length which I can shoot if I do it off the string. Does anyone here shoot off the string? Am I going to have to replace my string every couple months or does it not take that big of a toll on the string? Is there a special release I should use? ultratec1
I wouldn't shoot an 82nd or any short brace height bow off the string.
DU_man_84
i got the same problem i have a 27 inch draw, on my bow ive been shooting off the string for 6 years, every year i take my bow to my bow guy and he looks over everything, and every year he cant believe how good of shape my bow string is in, it has had no need for replacement yet, 6 years on the same string, its been looked at this year and it is still in good shape
Ambuscher
The only problem I ever had with shooting off the string was when I shot a release that used ball bearings instead of the lobster claw type.

LifeNRA
The loop you have on the string does not have to be long either. I think my loop is only about a half inch, just enough room for the jaws to clip in behind the nock. My starting piece of loop material is only 4.25 inches. Its tough to tie but it can be done. Besides there are releases that allow for adjustment, like the Tru-Fire Hurricane. This release has a one inch adjustment, its the one I use as well. I like shooting with a loop, I feel there is even tension on both sides of the nock. Not that there is anything wrong from shooting off the string. But I don't like all that pressure coming from the bottom. Just my own preference.

m gardner
There are lots of releases that are made that only shoot off the string. They clip on and need to be pushed onto the string and won't work with a loop. The only thing you need to do is learn to put a serving on occasionally or take it to the shop and have it done. Go to a reputable shop and they should have some you can try. On another note you may want to rethink the Airborne. I know guys that have cracked limbs on them already. The factory replaced them quickly though. Sometimes blistering speed isn't the only consideration when buying a bow. Mark
mule659
Yeah I'm not totally caught up on speed but at my short draw length it would be nice to be able to get some decent speed and have my arrows shoot a little flatter. I am also looking into the 101st by Bowtech.
m gardner
Look at the X Force LF Short Draw bows by PSE. They're fast, reliable and will accomodate your draw length. As a matter of fact the other X Force bows go to 26 inches and up to 80 pounds which should give plenty of speed. Mark
