hey i was curious who all out there had either a powerstroke or cummins diesel truck. im lookin into them. im a ford guy. but you cant seem to beat the cummins motor. i like fords style better, and they have a better tranny, but the cummins is better than the powerstroke and it gets twice the mileage.....i think fords frames are stronger, but its that dang engine that im concerned about. anyone have any pics or two cents on what they own.....and no i wouldnt consider a duramax, period.

I had a 04 Ford F-250 with the powerstroke. Now I have an 06 Dodge 2500 with the cummins. What a difference in the power. The Dodge is a lighter truck than the Ford, but you get better milage and a better ride. The ford I had would get 17 mpg and the Dodge I now have gets 19.5 mpg.

And another thing, the maintance on the Dodge is easier and cheaper.

the ford is definetly a heavier truck but i feel its built so much stronger and sturdier. the dodge seems like its made out of tin. and are these 4x4?? im actually leaning a little more towards dodge. thinking about putting a nice exhaust on it. but no major mods, i dont want to put the added stress on the tranny and componenets.

My dad is on his second Ford F250. Both have been great trucks. He the only reason he is on the second one is because he decided he wanted an extended cab....

He actually uses his truck too.... He has a fifth wheel camper he hauls all over the place. We used it tonight for hauling hay. 8 big round bales on a goose neck trailer and he had zero problems hauling them around.

I have NO experience or knowledge about the Cummings. But dads power stroke has been GREAT!

haha, the F series IS the best selling truck in america.......and ford has the best re sale.......75% of the trucks on the road where i am from are fords......i guess people call powerstroke powerjokes, and duramax duracrap, so i guess the only one nobody is talkin bad about is the cummins, hahah....maybe thats a sign.

any of you cummins owners have an aftermarket exhaust??? i have been researching them and alot of guys just go straight pipe and it sounds good, but i have been looking at MBRP, what y'all have???

I just put on a 4" MBRP about 2 weeks ago on my '02 Dodge. I also went straight pipe. It does sound nice when you got your foot in it:D

was 07 the last first year of the 6.7l?? I am thinkin about going with the 5.9l, i seem to be hearing more good things about that.....i've been looking at some 06's and you can pick one up for about $25,000 with 25,000 miles.....i think i am going to look for something that already has some add on accessories so i dont have to shell out the extra money :)

they dont make the 5.9 anymore so yea you would have to buy a used one...i'm the only one out of my friends that has the 6.7 ..5 of my buddy's have the 5.9..unless your going to change the whole exhaust system on a 6.7 there's no point in really doing anything else it wont sound much better due to all the emissions regulations. The guy at the muffler shop told me that the new trucks have 2 catalytic converters (sp.) so its hard to get any good sound on the factory exhaust. I asked him about straight pipes and he said he did it for one guy on a brand new duramax and it wouldnt hardly run. He had to come back and redo it. So i'm guessing he telling the truth bc he could have told me otherwise to make money off of me..i wouldn't have known any better

you should look on youtube at the 6.7L exhaust sounds, and some of the guys on there have some pretty sweet sounding systems on theirs....do you prefer the 5.9 or the 6.7?? im going to go the used route, you can pick them up barely broken in for a 50-60% discount than new.........just makes more sense to me...any pics of your truck mathews??

Well, lets just start by saying I am a Diesel buff not really a one truck guy. I do own two Pwerstrokes an 1997 7.3L F250 XLT Ex-Cab SRW and a 2007 6.0L F350 XLT Crew-Cab SRW and love them both. My wife owns a 2006 Chevy Duramax 3500 Crew-cab DRW loaded and that too is a great hard working all around truck. I do love the Cummins Diesels the older the better and make it a stick shift.......oh boy!!! I have been a fan of the old Dodges don't like the newer one too much. I went out and got me a new 2008 F450 6.4L Powerstroke and it was in the shop 4 months out of the 8 that I had it. So I had to get rid of it. From what I here and read in the Diesel world that if you stay away from the 08s and buy something older be it a Ford, Dodge, or a Chevy your not going to go wrong. Buy what you like, what you need, what you'll be happy with......if its got a Diesel its a Diesel!!!! Best of luck to ya!

yah, performance and reliabilty are important, probably more so than looks. im a ford guy, but have looked into the cummins for the simple fact its a better motor....how does your 6.0l f-350 run?? i didn't hear many good things about that motor, and im hearing people are running into a lot of electrical problems with them....and to be honest i am looking into an older (late 90s) cummins, won't have to spend as much and i think those are some bad trucks......

The 2003 6.0L were the only ones that I have heard to had problems that was the first year for the 6.0L. I had an 2004 F350 6.0L XLT Crew-cab DRW that I put about 100000 mlies on it, paid it off and traded it in for the 2008 6.4L F450. I had nothing but problems out of the 08. Thats why I own the 2007 6.0L, hadn't had any problems out of my 2004 6.0L so I went back to it. Its got about 35000 miles on her. I haven't had any problem out of that truck nor this one. I wish they were still making the 7.3L now that was a motor!!!! My 97 has about 300000 miles on her and still going! But if you are a Ford truck fan but love the Cummins motor they do make kits that you can put that motor into a Ford. About $5000 and up!!!

I would have agreed that it was a close race between the old 7.3 Powerstroke and the Cummins, but the new 6.0 Powerstrokes are total junk. If you're planning to frequently pull a heavy load, they won't last a year. Of course, if you're just planning to drive them down the road without towing anything, they should be OK. But then again, why would you want a diesel for that?

Test drive a stock one with the 6 speed Allison and I guarantee your opinion will change. Duramax makes more stock HP and torque than both the cummins or powerstroke plus has the best transmission of the 3 diesels. Go to www.duramaxracing.com ....this truck has blown out the best of the best powerstroke, cummins, and duramax trucks in the country in both Diesel Power Challenges he has entered.......I don't know how you can't even consider a Duramax. I've never met a disappointed Duramax owner.
