With my 07' LBZ Duramax, I'm getting about 17-18 mpg with a 120 hp Diablosport programmer installed. You also have to keep all the trucks components in mind. The Dodge Cummins are famous for losing trannys before 100,000 miles and the powerstrokes have had alot of engine troubles.

I'm a Chevy guy myself too, and I work on GM products as a job, so I'll give you the rundown on the Duramax's. Whenever they first came out with them (LB7), they were good engines but they did have problems with the injectors, but GM covers them up to 300,000km if there's any problems with them. Then they went to the LLY, the LBZ and now the newest LMM in the new body style trucks. We've seen hardly any problems with the engines or transmissions since then. The Allison transmission is absolutely bulletproof. I VERY rarely see one in the shop with a problem, maybe 2 in the past 3 1/2 years I've been with GM.

I've really been impressed with the new LMM engines. I tell you, I was sure surprised the first time I drove one of these new trucks and put my foot into it. It'd be a darn close run between the Duramax and the new Sierra Denali with the 403hp 6.2L V8 gas engine. The torque and power these new ones have is unreal! And they're very enviormentally friendly too with the particulate filters in the exhaust now. You can run the truck and stand beside the tailpipe and you wouldn't be able to smell that dreaded diesel smell most people dislike. It's also amazing how quiet and smooth these engines run, you could sit there with it running and hood open and actually be able to have a conversation with someone. Most others, especially those older cummins you'd need a loudspeaker to even hear someone talk beside you LOL.

I heard one of the other techs saying today that they're recalling some of those new ford trucks with the 6.4Ls, which wouldn't surprise me considering they're product will literally blow flames out the tailpipes. I haven't heard any negatives on the newer Dodge diesels.

thanks for the info, call me bad, but i like the loud diesels and the smell. part of me says they should sound like a semi.....i like to hear the power, which is why im going to look at one of the "older" models that dont have as many restrictions on them.......i want it to be loud (tastefully not obnoxious) and i want to smell it.....i will take all this into consideration.

Oh yeah, I can understand that! I'm just saying in general. A lot of people hate having a loud stinky diesel. Personally I like to hear the turbo spool like crazy and a smooth running engine for a diesel.

I'm a gas engine guy myself. There's no sweeter sound than a small block chevy with nice dual exhaust and an intake!

My uncle had a 2007 Dodge with the Cummins. He hated that truck. My grandpas 2006 Powerstroke would outpull it all day. They would put the aluminum livestock trailer on the Cummins and the old steel one on the Powerstroke and the Powerstroke would still walk all over the Cummins. My uncle got sick of his Dodge and traded it in on a 2008 F250 and that is a very very nice truck.

haha look at all these mixed reviews, who's a guy supposed to believe? haha jk...thats why when i read the reviews and someone gives it a 1 out of 5 and the majority give it a 4 i always am curious if thats someone trying to bash the other brand......i wish they would combine all 3, the allison tranny, cummins motor, and the ford chassis. then that would be a truck i would buy.

Why even bother with a diesel then? Get a gasser and put Flowmasters on it if your looking for something loud. Getting a diesel is about the power and fuel milage....you get an older one, your getting less power and less fuel milage but the added annoying noise and stinky exhaust. Sure, the black smoke looks cool, but all that is is unburnt diesel fuel which is going right into your wallet.

i've been looking on ebay and autotrader, and it seems like there are a lot more ford and dodge diesels for sale than chevy. maybe this is telling me that nobody wants to get rid of their chevy :) also been watching some videos on youtube, and it sure seems like there is a heated debate between cummins and powerstroke and they both bash eachother, but nobody really says much about the duramax.....is it the silent assasin?
