Predator
I have a couple mallard duck calls I really like but after about ten series they hang up from moisture in my breath. (Yeah I hear ya - don't call as much!) Does anyone have ideas an a model out there that is not more than about $35 that does not hang up like that? I just saw a couple in Cabelas that claim to not hang up trying to avoid the sales pitch vs. reality issue. Barring that I am going to look for a 12 volt hair dryer! DU_man_84
i buy from this guy www.hayescalls.com, only calls i use he has some calls that are around 35 bucks, he just redid his site, he has all kinds of custom calls he makes, his site only has a few, he has a lot of wood/poly calls for like 35 bucks that sound awesome and never hang up, and his acrylic calls are sweet, if you have the funds i would recommend acrylic, hayes has great calls and great customer service, im sure you can email and he can get some more info on other calls he makes, i know him personally he is a great guy to deal with
Guest flockstopper
One thing to look for is to make sure there is no foreign material under the reed. Even the slightest of foreign matter will cause the call to do that. Also, mylar reeds are notorious for sticking if they are installed upside down, and if the calls you are using are mass produced it is possible. The way to tell is to take the reed out of the call and hold it between your thumb and forefinger as though you were testing the "springyness" of the reed. Apply enough pressure to make the reed bend, which ever way curves out is the side that should be up. Hopefully that was clear, kinda hard to explain. I will also add, if you are producing that much spit, you may not be gating off your notes properly...I can call for periods of an hour or so with no problems. Check out Carlson Championship Calls, Jim James of Carlson Calls has a great DVD on duck calling that really helped me a ton and quickly! He also has a downright awesome poly call for 45 bucks that will put a lot of acrylics to shame, look for the volochoke on his website www.carlsoncalls.com Brian

duxndeer
You may want to also look into Echo calls. They dont't make "hang-up" free calls but they do make some great ones. They make good wood and acrylic calls as well as some good poly calls. Check out their website and new dvd's and video clips from last year. Leo
This shaker type chuckle call is one very very deadly little call. It won't freeze up and when the ducks get real call shy this one is a day saver. It's so easy to use you might think it can't be that effective. Trust me, it's very good! Get one! http://www.quakerboy.com/store.php?crn=208&rn=503&action=show_detail
Randy
First off, throw the bottle of Coke away and drink a bottle of water or a thermos of coffee. Sugar is very sticky, that's probably most of your problem. Just take the call that you use and wash it out every few days and you'll be surprised how much better it will work. As far as calls go, I blow a Haydel's timber cutter? or something like that. It's the camo Haydels call for about 35 bucks. I've bought and used many acrylic calls and even some coco boa. IMO they aren't any better than a more afford ably priced call, and they sure as heck don't make you sound any more like a duck if you don't know how to blow em. Good luck in your search. Good advice there, take the time to really learn how to blow the call, that is why I recommended the Carlson system, very effective!
SMOKE
ive even seen the calls that say they wont lock up with spit still do it. as said above upside down reed, foreign materials or u may just spit alot. when reeds get worn out too they tend to do it more often as well. couple tricks ive learned is i put rainex on all my reeds that helps a lot. also if you have a double drop lanyard u might be able to adjust the way the call hangs so the spit will run out the back with gravity. i know some contest callers that in between routines take a dollar bill and stick between the reeds to dry it out. also blowing into the back of the call will free the call up as well. hope these helps. Predator
Thanks randy that makes sense. Coffee is all I drink in the early set up. I'll try getting a couple different calls and try the rain x trick too.
