Dakota
Yesterday definitely could have gone better. We had Waterfowl Weekend at Sportsman's Warehouse where I work and the place was crowded. I go throught the ailes asking if I can be of service and saw this old teacher of mine with another lady. I jokingly say to her, "Now I know you two aren't here to buy decoys!" She smiles and says hi, and then her friend unloads her poisoned mouth on me with a barrage of insults and inflammatory remarks! "Who do you think you are? You can't help us and you don't look like you have the knowledge and competence to work here! You look way too young to work here; you can't be more than twelve! We don't need your help!":mad::mad: Oh...that PISSED ME OFF! I am normally a very complacent and calm person, but she hit me so low in a place that can, and just about, make me explode! My looks are a very difficult issue for me, but I really don't mind if people are nice and gentle about it. I just can't believe she had the audacity and shamelessness to do that right in the middle of a packed store! It was extremely rude and disrespectful, not to mention embarrasing to me and her friend, and undermined my credibilty as a Sportsman's employee and writer in the outdoor industry. As her friend dragged her out of the store, I was left standing shocked with my mouth open in disbelief and my face all red with fury in the middle of the crowded hunting department! To top it all off, my suburban breaks down just outside of town on the way home the same way it did on Prom Night this past April. That repair had me paying around $2,000, but luckilly this is covered by warranty. The repairman did I shotty job on it the first time and I'm still trying to pay $800 on it. I'm still thinking of selling it though to buy a more reliable vehicle. I just want to cry. Dakota

VermontHunter
Hang in there Dakota ,, I've worked the retail bizz for the last 20 yrs .. The public can be as nasty as a wounded bear at times ... You were the bigger person for not responding negatively ... ;) As for the vehicle, I'm in the same shoes there,, I just dumped $1200.00 in repairs and tires on my truck .. :( All this with fuel to buy before winter and property tax due next month as well .. :( And we just got hit with a huge hospital bill after Tammys last heart episode a few weeks back ... Life ain't it grand ... Hang in there buddy, we'll survive .. because we have good friends to look out for us ..
Dakota
Apparently Stephanie Mallory (of Realtree) was browsing through the forums and came accross this thread. She just e-mailed me saying she's been having the exact opposite problem (looking older than younger). Well, I guess I should be a little thankful there. You know, I absolutely don't have a problem with people being nice about it, but what that lady did just really cut me deep. A tongue is a double edged sword from which both blessings and curses can be issued, her words were used in a harmful way. Dakota
BowtechTurkeyHunter
You know Dakota when I first saw you ... I thought you would be bigger You know where to look on days like that Dakota after all you have been through in your short life (no pun intended) don't let someone like that discourage you. You have a lot more to look forward to and many more ppl just like that to show you the way ... you know what kind of a person you are on the inside and that is all that matters ... Take care buddy the next person you help will be more then greatfull for your knowledge and understanding of the outdoors. I know we are. Adjam5
Remember this... You can never tell stupid people... that they are stupid. Your the better by not getting into it with her, you most likely saved your job by not engaging her with her bad mouth. Ain't dealing with the public grand? buckee
The world is full of ignorant, arrogant, self serving people Dakota. And when you work in retail, you get to meet many of them All it takes is one customer like that, to ruin your day ...eh;) Cheer up, and be thankful everyone isn't like that. wtnhunt
Sounds like a rough day for sure Dakota, people like that who are ignorant really irritate me too. Hope you get the problems your suburban all straightened out.
toddyboman
That customer did one thing....made a fool of themselves. The best and worst thing about working retail is the people. Hang in there....
ruttinbuc
Yes, people can certainly be rude and disrespectful. You kept your cool and that is the main thing. If there is a next time that this happens just keep a smile on your face and ask if there is anything else you can help them with, to go along with the ignorance they already have! Now, vehicles on the other hand!
