Guest Whitetails247
What is your Max. effective range on a whitetail for your bow? What kind of bow, and how much poundage? Just wondering what bows shoot farther and with what poundage.
Ambuscher
You have alot to learn my child. With bow hunting it's not how far, but how close. LOL J/K with ya Welcome to the forums.
Bowtech_archer07
Welcome to the forums!! I shoot a Bowtech Ol' Glory shooting about 67-70 lbs. and I am effective out to 45 yds, However I would definitely prefer my shots to be 30 yds and under, but I am comfortable shooting out to 45. Also, it's not necessarily the bow or poundage, but the archer and his/her comfortable range. Again, welcome to the forums.

Gator
75yds is my max shot;) BTW, I'm just kidding. I can shoot to 50yds, but unless conditions were perfect, there is NO WAY I would. 35-40yds is about my max
unioncountyslayer
Welcome to the forums. I shoot a Mathews Outback at 70 lbs. I've killed a couple of deer right at 40 yards, with confidence out to 45-50. But like many others, shooting that distance is only a last resort if I feel I'm not going to get a closer shot. 95 % of my bow kills have been at 25 yards or closer. Gaining confidence at certain distances takes time, not poundage or equipment. I shoot my bow 365 days of the year, and that's where my confidence comes from. Good luck this season! Turkeygirl
Farthest shot I've ever made on a deer was 25 yards. Probably 30 or 35 would be my max distance, but usually my stands are in the right spot that I don't need a far shot. I've shot at targets out to 40 yards, but I'm pulling about 48 pounds so after 35ish, I would not even think of taking a shot.
Tecumseh
I'm shooting a mathews dxt at 65lbs.I practice out to 45 yards I've never shot a deer past 35 yards.

My setup is a 2008 Hoyt Katera set at 65 lbs. with a 29.5" draw, shooting Goldtip XT's and CX Maxima 350's with 100grn. tips .. It's definately all in the archer ... m gardner
As long as the wind didn't blow, animals didn't move, and I exhibit good form it would be a cinch at 80 for me, but I feel better under 40. I haven't missed a 4 inch spot all summer at 40. Here's a squirrel I shot with a blunt at 42 yards and buck I passed at 27.5. I've got another week to hunt so I'm waiting. PSE Mossy Oak NX @ 59 pounds, Carbon Force Radial Weave Predator 200 arrows @ 29 inches, G-5 Montech 125's.Mark
Bowhuntersrave
Browning Illusion set @ 65lbs shooting a 28.5" Blackhawk Vapor proseries. I practice out to 50 comfortably but have not shot a deer over 30yds
wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. This question gets asked here a lot. I shoot a pse bow, draw is 70 lbs and a 30 inch draw. I shoot/practice on out well beyond my confident hunt situation shooting limits. Really I would like if at all possible to keep my shots 30 yards and in, max distance would be inside 40 under perfect conditions.
MUDRUNNER
Welcome to the forums! I shoot a 2004 Bowtech Liberty @ 65 lbs and 29" with 2219 aluminum arrows and 100 grain tips.I practice out to 40 yards, but my bow is not too fast,so 30 yards is my limit on deer. Rhino
These days I shoot a Bowtech Guardian pulling 70 lbs. I can shoot it a couple hundred yards or so but I have trouble hitting a target much past 80 yards. Now put hair on it like a deer and the max range I'll shoot is 40 to 45 yards. Anything much beyond that and chances are a whitetail won't be there when the arrow arrives no matter how accurate the shot was.
fly
WELCOME! I'm hoping to be comfortable shooting out to 40 yards this year. Last year I was only comfortable out to 30. I think it has little to do with the bow, but the archers form and confidence level. Just about all of today's bows can kill deer at 50-60 yards, but can the archer get the arrow where it needs to go? I shoot a Fred Bear TRX (2003 model) at 62 lbs. with carbon arrows and Rocky Mtn. Gator mechanical broadheads (2 inch diameter). The IBO for my bow is about 305.
bighoytman
Maximum range Well I don't usually don't practice under 30 yards.I like to start practice at 30 yards and work back.I routinely shoot out to 90 yards.I would know way try to shoot deer that far.I do alot of hunting on ground, stalking ,walking out and setting on a stool behind a log.I also hunt tree stands alot.I shot a buck at 42 yards last year got caught trying to turn around and draw.My shots are usually under 20 yards.I don't tell anybody to shoot that far.I just feel me personally if I can make these longer shots in practice. When it comes moment of truth 0-30 yard shots are a snap. What I will tell ya is,if you have done your scouting, placed stand correctly, practice scent control, can set still, and hunt with wind in your favor you should be able to make 20 yards or less shots. Its not how far I can shoot,It how close I can get and cleanly kill that animal without him knowing Im even there. HOYTnMUZZYboy
Welcome to the Forums! I shoot a Hoyt Trykon shooting 70lbs, practice out to 50-60 yds. When it comes to how far to shoot a deer, IMO it all depends on wind, animal movement, cover and being steady. Furthest shot I have taken a deer with my bow is 35 yards. He was slighty quartering away. Went 20 yards and went down. It all depends on everything being just right. There is no need to take an unethical shot on any animal reguardless of the weapon of choice.

HUNTINGMAN
I shoot a mathews switchback xt set at 70# with a 29" draw.I dont feel comfortable shooting at anything past 40 yards no matter how open or still the wind is,I prefer my shots to be within 20 yards. You owe it to the game you are hunting to make clean and quick kills so pushing your distance beyond your comfort level is not an option, keep it close ,clean and quick.
