bigmoss
So I have to send a box to someone with a rifle barrel in it. I have not been at home or in the office long enough this week to call and schedule a pickup so I keep the box in the truck and decide when I see a UPS store I will drop it off myself and send it. So I go in the store, drop the box off MYSELF, fill out the paper work MYSELF and get everything ready. I get to the cash to find out there is now a $5 UPS drop off fee !! Are you serious ?? I save the driver a trip to my place, do all the driving and gas and all the paper work right at your location and still have to pay you for it ? I had no choice to pay it as it had to go UPS but this is a prime example once again of their trumped up fees and charges and why I wont use them in my businesses and avoid them like crazy if I have any other option even more expensive when receiving stuff. Man they are THIEVES !! AHHH sorry had to vent !
texastrophies
Was this an actual UPS store or was it a store that takes UPS shipments as part of their business?

dougp
That must be new. That is absolutely rediculous!
ruttinbuc
They charge $2.00 here if they tape up the box and affix the label.
Strut10
. I get to the cash to find out there is now a $5 UPS drop off fee !! What type of return paperwork did you have?? I am unaware of any $5 "drop off" fee. Were you sending it to the States?? May have had something to do with the Canadian Customs documentation. What do you think you'd have gotten charged had you scheduled a driver to pick it up at your location??? More than 5 bucks. But, hey............you always have the option of saving those pesky UPS charges and driving it there yourself.
Hoyt03
that 5$ probably went straight into Struts pocket, LOL j/k

I can maybe understand the charge if they come pick it up but when you bring it in and do it all yourself is just robbery. Sher told me UPS put this in effect about 2 months ago and she has at least 4 people walk out a day and go to another courier because of it. Like I said I NEVER use them I had no choice as the package was going back on the receivers account.
Ravin R10 man
I have had only one problem with UPS with a seed shipment, they paid for the entire contents, as I had the declared value insured. They are pricey, but what isnt these days?
sskybnd
bigmoss, you did save the driver the trip to your house, saving him gas and the such, and im on your side about ups, but how ever i work for fed ex, a portion of that 5.00 charge was probaly was going to pay the driver that pics up the box and than has to deliver it to where its going. but ups has hourly employees to where fedex ground, home del get paid by the package and stop, and fedex express are hourly employees. wtnhunt
Never had any issues with UPS with rates, seems they are a bit cheaper than fed ex, but a little more most times than USPS.
bigmoss
UPS is also the only courier I have ever used that charges me like $40 to stamp cleared on the paperwork when I get a package from the USA. Fex Ex and the USPS have never done that to me as of yet.
NiteRunner
Never had a problem with UPS. If we have something to send them, we just box it up and take it to a store that has Pick-up service. Never had an extra charge. Actually I think we did have one problem with UPS. The driver came to drop off a package to our house and he must have been afriad of dogs. Because he THREW the package onto our porch and jogged back to his truck, just because he heard the dogs barking in the house we guess. LOL We laughed a long time about that, probably wouldn't have had it been something fragile.
TxStarr
I am not fond of UPS. They have left boxes on the porch (instead of on the table that sits on the porch where the dogs can't get it), boxes balanced on the porch rail (where they get rained on), in the mailbox (it is a new thing now that they deliver to the post office and the mail carrier actually delivers the package to your house—the whole reason we had it sent UPS b/c our mail carrier is not dependable!), and on the ground by the drive way (a box of muzzleloader supplies that the dogs then strewed all over the yard). I am happy to see they are not just picking on me!

Strut10
Here's the scoop: Let's start with what I already knew. UPS and The UPS Store are two separate entities. While The UPS Store brand and corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of UPS, each UPS Store is an individually owned franchise. (Rule #1: Always be sure who you're talking about before you play the "sucks" card .) Now......here's what I did not know: There are different agreements between UPS and The UPS Store (USA) and The UPS Store (Canada, Ltd.) concerning the amount package revenue generated by respective UPS Stores that goes to the store. The agreement covering the Canada portion of the business does not mandate any charge for package drop-off. But it does not prohibit it either. The individual franchisee may do (charge) whatever he wishes for whatever service he wishes. The USA agreement prohibits such practice. In the States, you walk into a UPS Store with an ASD, RS or ARS (all prepaid services) package, you hand it across the counter and you leave........for free. (Rule #2: A lot of things are cheaper to buy in the U.S.)

BR44
Hey strut, to bad nobody thinks about sending it to a alternate address when they know they won't be home. I have never had any problems & I've done ALOT of business using UPS (racing componants, hunting stuff, rifles, ammo, etc). Hint-when ordering, there's an area for billing address, and one for shipping to (other than billing).
Strut10
Hey strut, to bad nobody thinks about sending it to a alternate address when they know they won't be home. Yep. UPS rates are actually cheaper to commercial addresses. So if you get it sent to where you work, for example, you should get a break on shipping (if the shipper decides to give you the break rather than pocket the savings).
