I am a volunteer fireman at home on the Island I live on...and also on the ERT (emergency response team) here at the plant I work in....both deal with fire and medical calls. One of our Firefighters put together a couple of videos I thought turned out pretty good. Our volunteer dept back home deals with fire and medical calls and firefighters are encouraged to go on EMS calls for lift assist as well. LifeNRA Posted August 28, 2008 Report Share Posted August 28, 2008 I started back when I was 16 years old. In 1979 I joined a volunteer fire department, two years later I joined an ambulance. Went through all the training for the fire department including state level 1 & 2. A year into the ambulance I got my EMT, VRT(vehicle rescue technician), then went on to be a CPR instructor, and a Assistant EMT instructor. I was involved into both until about 1995, then I gave it up. I miss it very much, be being an all volunteer wasn't paying the bills! Its the most rewarding job IMO to help someone in need. Lot of brothers on here, I didnt realize how many firefighters there were on here. It dont matter if your paid or vol. I was lucky enough to get the first job I applied for after I finished my Municipal Fire Safety degree at OSU.
