Guest csnowm
Anybody heard of or hunted while pregnant? I believe I've thrown my OB for a loop. I didn't think it was a big deal but when a coworker was concerned, I told him I'd ask my doctor. Now I'm wondering a bit myself. I'll be 27 next weeks when dove season opens. I have a Browning 20 gauge shotgun. Any thoughts?
Guest Andrea
Hmmmmmmmmm.................good question. I don't see where it would cause any problems. Sitting in a treestand 20 ft in the air might not be advisable. Nor would dragging a 150-250 pound deer. But I don't see anything wrong with dove hunting. wtnhunt
Welcome to the forums. My wife has hunted while pregnant, and also very shortly after having a baby too, but it would definitely be best to ask your physician. VtBowhunter
I know a woman here that was almost ready to give birth (within a couple weeks) when she climbed into a treestand and arrowed a nice buck. After having her baby a little over a week later, she was back at it, and shot another nice buck during the rifle season.
Turkeygirl
I would think, as long as you don't haul the deer out or fall out of a stand, you'd be fine! Check with your Dr. but I don't see why you can't hunt!

stevebeilgard
kathleen's post pretty well says it all. go hunting. no heavy lifting, nothing dangerous or questionable, and stay on the ground. teach your child about hunting asap, even in the womb. true story: when we first discovered we were pregnant, my wife and i read our child (times 2) a bedtime story every night from conception. and every night as children. they were both straight A students in school, both loved to read. now they are doing the same for our grandkids. my youngest daughter is presently working on her doctorate. so, go hunting and teach your children well. mrswtnhunt
Yeah, that is comical Kathleen. I once got fussed at real bad cause I loaded a big 7 point on the front of a 4-wheeler less than 4 weeks after having my youngest baby.........and I told him, "But, I didn't bust any stitches"......lol I hunt full force, pregnant or not. I am extra careful to take it slower and I don't go to the "fartherest" stand. I think it helps to put it in the kids early on. My oldest daughter(12 now) got her first buck at 9 years old and she is just as addicted as me and wtnhunt. It is a family thing for us. Mach1
My wife went hunting with me last fall while she was 3-4 months along. She even helped me load a medium sized doe in the back of my truck. She did very little of the lifting.
wildside
I bow hunted when I was pregnant but don't remember if I shot a gun or not. I did ride my Harley until my jacket wouldn't zip together anymore, and my OB was perfectly fine with that. In fact, he printed an extra ultrasound picture for me to put on my windshield! I'm a big believer in common sense and not living in a bubble. That doesn't mean throw caution to the wind and put yourself or your unborn child in a blatently unsafe position, it simply means be safe and enjoy being alive.
