The media attention this thing is getting in Houston is unreal. The forecasters have no ideal where it is going yet, but if you were listening to the radio here, you would think it was 50 miles off the coast of Galveston, getting ready to come straight up 45 to Houston.

It seems to me like they (media) is just trying to make it much worse than it really is, at this time. The large message signs are already telling people to fill up with gas and have their escape routes planned. It is really pathetic.:mad::mad:

yea, but i guess after you lose thousands of ppl to one hurricane ppl tend to overreact..all we can do is hope for the best. i dont think you guys have to worry too much over there. Hopefully something crazy happens and this thing just does something for the best for everyone. But until then we are preparing like the crazy media says...better safe than sorry

When you have stupid people like the ones who did not evacuate during Katrina.....then I guess the media needs to hype it a bit. Not that it will do any good.

However, with that being said........I hate it when Mike Sidell or Jim Cantore are standing on a beach with little or no wind and act like it's the end of the world. Fay wasn't bad here in the panhandle but they sure made it sound like we were all gonna die.

Prayers sent for you guys in Louisiana. Looks like that's the path it will take, unless of course...it decides to fool them all and come here. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that you shouldn't be prepared. I think everyone along the gulf coast and the atlantic coast should be prepared every hurricane season. I just don't think it is prudent to be making evacuation plans already, when NO ONE has any ideal where Gustav is going, it is not even in the Gulf of Mexico yet. Heck it could end up in Mexico. The media is just sensationalizing it and hyping it up way to early. Next thing you know, evacuation plans will be neccessary as soon as a wave comes off the coast of Africa.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

My mom just called me from Jasper, TX and she said that she has called every town from Jasper north to Little Rock, Ark. and there are no rooms at any hotels!!! She said she finally found one in Conway, Ark. which is just past Little Rock. There's one gas station here in the Jackson, MS area that is out of gas already.

I hope the best for everyone in this things path.

And if it comes your way, by all means, get the *%$# out of dodge!!! We don't need a repeat of Katrina.

i don't think the katrina stay behinds were stupid, andrea. i think that they were planning to loot and did loot, but got caught in a worse storm than they bargained for. i personally think it was mostly criminals we helped out down there, not average citizens.:o:(

Heard on the news that New Orleans is under mandatory evac. I know they are evacing patients up here to Oklahoma, and saw 6 ambulances from Washington and Oregon on I35 last night, van only assume they are headed down that way. Weather Channel is saying this could be a Cat 5, man, I hope not
