too_pointer
For those who have a Boyd's laminated stock, did you stay with the pad that came with it, or put a different one on it.? I'm ordering one for my Encore, and might put a Simms pad on it, any info on what size fits it the best would be appreciated too_pointer
AJ
Re: Recoil pads for the Boyd\'s laminated stocks I have both. Not for the Encore but on other guns. Unfortunately, I don't use the pre-fit pads. I grind my own. You can always take the measurements after you get the stock and order the closest one. I think you will find they should be about the same as the factory T/C stocks.
too_pointer
Re: Recoil pads for the Boyd\'s laminated stocks Thanks AJ. Sims offer 2 for the Encore, one for wood, 1 for syn. I will take your advice and try to get the best fit after looking over their patterns. I just don't want to pay someone to grind it for me, I wouldn't have the tools (or skills) to do it myself too_
str8shooter48
Re: Recoil pads for the Boyd\'s laminated stocks too pointer, I put a Simms prefit pad on my Boyd stock I ordered the #10030 for the wood stock. Its not a perfect fit but its not too bad. I lined it up even at the top it fit perfect there. The stock was about a 1/32" wider than the pad and the pad itself was about 1/4" longer that the stock. The fact that the pad is longer than the stock really didn't bother me and thats how I left it. On the other hand the 1/32" difference between the pad and stock bugged the **** out of me. I remedied this by making a spacer out of a black plastic powder bottle. I cut a piece then screwed it to the original pad that came on the Boyds stock. I shaped it to the same dimensions of the pad with a palm sander. When it was done I aligned it with the stock then centered the Simms pad on it then tightened it down. It turned out to be a thing of beauty. A friend of mine put the synthetic prefit on his synthetic stock and that fit wasn't perfect either maybe a little worse than mine. I can't vouch for the recoil reduction on the muzzleloader but I had a limbsaver pad put on my Browning Citori Skeet Gun two weeks ago. I like it a lot, makes the 12ga feel like I'm shooting a 28ga. My Browning BT-99 trap gun is going to get fitted for one in the next couple weeks. I was impressed.
too_pointer
Re: Recoil pads for the Boyd\'s laminated stocks Thanks for your help, this gives me a starting point. I wasn't sure whether the one for wood or sny. would give me the best fit, now I know !!! too_pointer
