Tony
almost made it happen this morning. i had 3 does walk the fence instead of cross it like they usually do. they got down wind of me and it was game over. but if i had cut a shooting lane for that shot it would have been only 25 yards. i could have shot that doe beofre she got there. i have a new shooting lane now. i saw a small buck and he had limbs in his rack that he didnt like very much. he was twisting and jumping trying to get it out but it wasnt working. i last saw him going crazy headed east. what was really cool was i got the shakes pretty bad when i saw those does coming and got my bow ready. you just got to love bowhunting. i have scouting to do tomorrow and i need a haircut bad. then friday morning im back in the same stand. maybe i can tag out with,my county doe tag then. good luck everyone. jm23494
Sounds like you had an exciting morning Tony. Best of luck to you next time out. 3 more days, forcast is looking great for the PA opener: 40's overnight and mostly sunny in the low 60's throughout the day. Adjam5
Good Luck Jm. I will be heading up to our cabin in NY Catskill Mtns to chase turkey with my oldest and youngest sons, Joe and Michael. It would be Mike's 1st if he connects. Joe will be calling;). We still have a few weeks before our deer bow season starts here in NY. Coyote is open, so maybe some lead might be flying after all:D Have a great weekend everyone! ranchand99
Good luck! Well I got one but it won't be an upgrade.I still have plenty of time,so anyways here is the story. Got off work at 4pm,and finally made it home by 4:45pm.I got a quick shower, and headed out.2 people were near where I wanted to go,so I went to a back-up spot. The wind was real calm as I slipped up the tree.I was ready by 6pm,and 5 minutes later I saw a small 4pt or either spike feeding in the 2 yr old clearcut. I watched him off and on for nearly an hour.I had put out some golden estrous, and was hoping it would pull something in bow range.About 7:10pm I hear something behind me in the thicket.I saw a deer bird dogging around, and had a good feeling it was a buck trying to find the source of the estrous.1 minute later a 5pt (no brows) steps out 8yds behind me,and to the off side of the tree.He then walks under my stand within 2ft of my tree! He stopped to smell around...a whole 2yds from the base of my tree!I tip-toed around in my stand and got turned around.I drew back on him,and he turned broadside.I found the spot, and tripped the release. He ran 20yds in a circle, and stood 12 steps from my tree, and fell over! That was awesome! Here he is..

jm23494
Well first of all I think I need to switch jobs and be a weatherman. This way I can lie and still have a job. About half an hour before daylight broke it started raining and rained until about 10. Of course the forcast looked great and I didn't take any of my rain gear with me. So the morning sucked. I did manage to jump one from some mountain laurel in the afternoon but couldn't see what it was or get a shot. Oh well maybe next weekend. I was just lovin' it... lagging behind with the camera... while my sons walked the woods looking for game. Such beautiful fall colors now. Hope everyones weekend was great! Jeramie
Gang! We are looking pretty good as a team. Nice work everyone! I will be getting out for the first time next weekend. I went on an Oklahoma Antelope hunt this past weekend. I connected. Its a shame we cant count her! http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?p=952621#post952621
Adjam5
Nice goat Jeramie:) Congrats. Do they taste like deer? It looks like I might get the next coming 4 weeks or better off. The company I work for is slow and myself and 50 others might get laid off:( Not really a big deal, just need to stay out as long as deer season is open:D My union will find me more work when my # comes up. But electrical construction is slow in NYC. Thats what I do. We need the Freedom tower to be built and that will employ many of us for quite some time. OK, it has been unusually cold in this area lately. My son and are thinking the rut will come a bit early this year. It starts heating up with buck fights around Halloween week. That has always been a good day to hunt for me. The 31st. We hunt suburbia, 40 miles north of NYC and NY's Catskills. Been shooting our bows every day after dinner. We are ready. BTW. my screen name is a acronym for the names of our family members Anthony, Dawn, joseph, anthony, michael 5 of us...ADjam5 Anthony
Jeramie
I think we may have a good rut too. We had a cool summer and now its already getting really cool. We were in the low 40's again this morning. Its already been pushing the 30's a couple of times around the house. I also noticed that the leaves are starting to change. I believe by the last week in October the bucks will be HOT to trot. Nice goat Jeramie:) Congrats. Do they taste like deer? Im not sure. It doesnt smell like deer. It smells like a goat. ranchand99
Congrats on the lope! Went after work today to try and get another one with the omega. There was 7 people signed into my small area.I got there early which didn't stop one guy from parking 200yds from my truck.... Anyways I saw a solo doe,and let her pass hoping for a buck.As I looked around I noticed I had been busted.A big doe was sitting right there 66yds away watching me.I decided I would try her since I figured she was about to blow and ruin the whole hunt anyways. I started easing my gun around slowly but surely,as she stomped and looked at me.I had to shoot left handed. She was quartering towards me.I put it right on her shoulder and hammered down.I heard her crash not 50yds from where I shot her. While I was re-loading another doe watched me..lol I can only take 2 on this hunt,so I decided to pass her,and see if I have any luck next week getting a buck. Here she is. ranchand99
Well I went with my oldest son Jacob on an Adult Child hunt on the local WMA.Friday evening we saw 5 deer,12 hogs, and some turkeys. Also saw about 8 10" baby gators. This morning me and Brandon went back to the same area, but moved a little.Within the first 30 minutes of daylight we had a deer 20yds away from us on the other side of the bushes,it started blowing at us which I didn't think was funny, but Brandon found it quite amusing. I said well bud lets move to another spot,so we picked up and moved about 1/4 mile away.We got settled into location #2 around 7:45am.Well brandon was playing with some rocks when I looked over at him. Then when I looked back I saw a deer step into the shooting lane.I got my crosshairs on it and shot.I saw it fall and get back up. We took off down that way,and about 80yds from where it had come out I saw a big buck step out.I took a knee and shot hastily I admit..I looked and looked for that deer, and couldn't find him.I found 20 specks of blood over a 200yd stretch so I think it's safe to say that one will make it. We started looking around, and I found the first deer.It was a nub.I have no clue why a big buck and nub would be traveling together, unless big boy was bothering mama. Here Brandon is with the nub. Me and Jake were suposed to go back this evening, but the rain was moving in.I saw on the radar where it looked like we might get a break.I hated to drive 1hr 15 min to this spot with gas so high..Knowing we may get rained out,but I had to try. We got to our spot, and there was no sign of any trucks after the rain.I checked down a long road and no one was there either. We started to our spot when I saw orange? Someone had evidently came in before the rain, and was sitting at our spot. The truck must have been hidden at the other ramp 1/4 mile away.We turned around and walked straight away from them.We were about 500yds from them, and headed to the powerline when a buck stepped out in front of us.This time there was no bad shot and he dropped in his tracks. He's got little melted hershey kisses for antlers..lol This is the first deer I've taken with Jacob, and I think he finally got to feel the excitement. Jeramie
Congratulations everyone on the deer! Im so far behind.... Typically im out by the first weekend. I havent been out once. It stinks. Our ML'er season is in two weekends (including this one). Hopefully I can slam something then. I use the first couple of weeks of bow season to get out and scout with bow in hand. Sadly, that hasnt been an option...
Adjam5
Dang Ranchand99...You have to have a BIG freezer:) Congrats and a BIG cool Dad thumbs up too:cool::cool: I am fresh back from 4 days at deer camp. Scouting, raking trails, making sure the stands are solid and trimming shooting lanes. I did happen to shoot a few crows while looking for the elusive eastern turkey:D. I also introduced my cousins kid, to the sport hunting and skeet shooting. I took him out with me on 2 hunts as I was working crows with the Foxpro caller. He saw how it was done:p and how skeet shooting helps one to stay sharp when wing shooting. I think he is hooked. I told him to take his hunter ed courses and next time he could be the one with the gun in his hand. This coming Saturday is our deer bow opener. I cannot begin to tell you how pumped we are in this house:).

ranchand99
Went this afternoon after work to a clearing that has a ton of fresh growth.I found tracks everywhere.I had just turned around and sat down in my stand when I saw a doe and nub come be-boppin' into the clearing. They got near one of the thicker sections, and started feeding.I decided to wait since it was an hour and a half before dark.I wound up seeing another doe as well, but no bucks.I'm going to wait until rifle season opens to go back in there. If I keep seeing a bunch of deer I may put a ladder stand up for the wife. I am going on another WMA hunt friday, and saturday.I'm going to sit right where i saw a huge buck a few weeks ago,and couldn't get a shot. Good luck to y'all!
