My son and I are on our way out the woods and he stopped several times to text message. I said "stop it with that crap now!...were hunting Joe! Always on that cellphone:mad:"...Dad...That was Tim Andrus I was texting...he's on a hunt in S Dakota and he is looking at some shooters in the distance...my facial expression changed:rolleyes: now that I knew it was Tim Andrus...Joe goes...Oh...NOW its OK I'm on the cell huh Dad?...I said shut up and lets go get breakfast...kids... We will be back out in the woods at 2pm... Good Luck Team! Anthony
arrow32
So how did they day turn out? My day was very good but the stand I ended up hunting was just 20 yards to far down on the hill or I could have killed 9 deer. All took the same path. Saw 11 all together. Saw two maybe three bucks not real sure. I had been watching a little 3 point and decided I was going to shoot him if he moved my way then another little 4 point came in behind him about 20 minutes later and they got into weezing at each other and hit heads a little then the 3 point walked off. Anyway if my stand was up the hill just another 20 yards I would have had some deer down:mad: Great day in the woods tho it was 39 degrees when I got out there and stayed cool all day. Saw a coon and a nice red fox and tons of squirrels. I hope to this week put a deer down for the team and the freezer.
jm23494
Hey group things have been a little hectic here. Made it out in the woods Saturday afternoon and as has been the case this year didn't see anything except for few squirrels. I'm heading up to my families land this weekend to sit for a while. The one stand I'm excited to sit in is at a small pond that was at the end of a rub line that had a couple 6-8" trees in the row. Hopefully things will go well and I'll get to meet what put those marks there.
Adjam5
Hey Team...I waited for my oldest boy Joe(16) to get home from school and we got in the woods by 3:30. At 4:30, Joe radios me to to say we have meat on the ground. He shot a button buck. I got down to help him with the drag back to the house. I didn't see anything while I was on stand. I will be back out there this afternoon. Good Luck everyone.

mrswtnhunt
Hey guys, wanted to share my FRUSTRATING story about this past weekend. I was sitting in a hang on stand on the edge of some woods looking out over a clover plot. About 10 yards from my tree is a wide path that goes into the woods. It is about 9:30am and I am getting stiff. I hit the grunt call a few times real short and I hear movement in the woods behind me. It sounds like a deer. I can hear it coming slowly down the path. Then the sound stops. I then hear some leaves rustling coming from the treeline to my left. Sounds like alot of leaves crunching. Then all of a sudden I hear a deer blow right behind me. I think, the wind is not blowing that direction and the tree is wider than me so it shouldn't of seen me. I was sitting dead still and I was about 25 feet up in the tree. Then all of a sudden six dogs come running up the tree line towards me and the deer takes off. The dogs are all around me. Up under my stand and behind me in the woods. It made me so MAD I could have spit nails. I have never had luck with grunt calling and i had this deer coming in on a string. Still don't know what is was. I was so tempted to put an arrow in one of the dogs, but I didn't. I have seen the dogs at a house down the road. they are all inbreads and there are LOTS of them. I don't know what to do. We don't have animal control or a dogcatcher out here. It is just so frustrating to do all the right things, stand location, scent control, practice...practice...practice....for some dad blame dogs to ruin it all. I went back to the same stand that afternoon and only saw 4 racoons. It is rare to hunt that field and not see at least some does. Do you guys think I aught to give that stand a rest or just keep trying. It is in a great location and is easy to get to without bumping the deer. Just don't know what to do. arrow32
I've have the problem before mrs. like all last year down on a farm I was hunting. I don't think you need to give it a rest really them deer will still move through there but if it keeps happening it might push the deer to move at different times of the day or night only. It is tempting to arrow them dogs eh?lol Sorry about your luck but keep pushin it'll come:D
arrow32
Hit the woods last night and got soaked it was a monsoon out there. I don't think it let up one bit once it got started. Did have about an hour where it wasn't raining just some drops here and there anyway. I got there and I see 3 doe on the edge of the field so I get ready and slip down the side unnoticed. I get set up on the edge of this field and they start feeding my way slow but they were coming. I had a couple shots at some yearling doe but didn't really want to take them and really was in no hurry. So I keep watching and keep sitting there and finally a more mature doe walks out I think she was only about 2.5 years old. Had a nice size body on her so was going to take her. They were all feeding not looking my way (keep in mind I'm eye level with them) and so I start the long draw back to make a shot. I literally have an inch left until I'm anchord and a deer behind me that I didn't know was there blows and runs into the middle of the field. All them doe bolt further down into the field:mad: You want to talk about ticked off I was. Perfect set up blown. Only saw a couple other deer through the night during that down pour and they were skirting the opisite end of the field so no chance with them. I'm done ranting now will be back in stand Monday. Good luck.
jm23494
I made it out Friday and Saturday. I took a shot at a doe at 10 yards and blew it right over her back on Friday right before dusk. Went out Saturday dispite the rain that we recieved. I saw another deer but it got spooked before it made it in to a shooting lane. Hoping to talk the girlfriend into a trip back next weekend for the both of us to go hunting so we'll see.
Adjam5
Hey Team...I scored a doe for us! OK Heres the skinny... Got up to our hunting camp around 5pm Weds night. Got all set to go out in the morning. It was 20 degrees!!! YEEHAHHH...I could only sit on stand until 9, didn't see a thing. Man... did I look forward to that cup of coffee when I got back. Got back on stand around 2. The sun heated everything up real nice. It was comfy on stand . At 4:30 I take my bow off the hook and get ready. This is when stuff happens...at this time...show time:). At 5pm the noise starts. I hear rustling and 2 fawns come out to eat apples. 12 minutes later...2 mature doe step out and take the long way to the apple tree. I see them, I draw sitting down, searching with my lip for the kisser button through my mask... and I hold... waiting for them to get in my sight picture. They take the long way... damn...15 yards...20 yards... they stop at 30 and start grooming themselves...I'm holding...I'm holding...One goes over to the fawns...I get a bead on the doe thats all alone. (I know she is a hair over 30 yards, I hit that spot with my rangefinder before... when I got set.) I settle my 30 yard pin on her chest...exhale, aim and let fly...She jumped the string a bit, but I hit her good and the arrow drove right up into her chest and she took off into the brush with the arrow buried to the fletch. I waited 20 minutes and it got dark on me. I came back the next morning with a neighbor. All I thought about was the coyotes in the area. We picked up the blood trail again, found my arrow and her intact. She ran uphill instead of left or right. Weird... This was a special deer to me and I have shot a bunch of doe with my bow... Why?... I consider a Sullivan county deer, as opposed to a Rockland county deer(where I live), to be a honest deer. They are less tolerant of human odor and intrusions. Know what it is like to be pursued by predators and really forage for a meal. Not have landscaping to hold them over in the harsh winter food periods. This was the 1st time I ever had to leave a deer lay over night and recover it the next day...1st deer I killed in this stand also. AND... It was the longest shot I EVER killed anything with my bow. 33 yards. Here she is, a big ole molly.
Tony
hey congrats on the doe Adjam5 i got a doe also. after a lot of rain lately and a bunch of 12 hours shifts, i finally got to go deer hunting. this morning at 8 am 2 small bucks came by, 1 was borderline P&Y and the other was a 6 point. as i was watching them,i looked to my left and a doe had just walked out of the cedar thicket. so at 31 yards and quartering away i smoked her with a complete passthrough. what was funny, is she just walked away and back into the thicket. i got down and started blood trailing her after 15 mins. i knew the shot was really good. but after 40 yards into the thicket i was having second thoughts, i could find any blood at all. panic started to creep in and i replayed the shot agin. i knew she was smoked, i just had to go a little further. i went about 10 yards more, and there she layed. the arrow went in at the last rib on the right side and came out right behind the front leg. i couldnt believe this doe didnt bleed until the last 6 yards or so. now im fired up. i couldnt believe how i was shaking after the shot. man its good to have that feeling. thats why i hunt. so that was my county doe tag, now im after a whopper or bust. arrow32
Congrats! Was out all day yesterday saw two mature 8 points. First one went in the 130's I think and the other was just shy of making p&y but I'm trying. Had the first 8 in at 20 yards but there was some brush and I couldn't get a shot. This weekend I will be out all day again Saturday maybe Friday night I'm not sure yet time will tell. Jake (proudowner) is coming in late Friday night to hunt with me and dad Saturday. Helping another team get points.LOL Anyway should be a fun hunt this weekend.

Adjam5
Good Luck Craig...go get 'em:) I'll be leaving for my hunting camp in Sullivan county ,NY at noon today. I have been laid off now 4 weeks now, so this really works to be able to hunt whenever I want. My wife does not care...she says more room in the bed and no snoring...Gotta love her huh? She even made me a Ricotta cheese cake, to take with me to camp...What a gal. Halloween and the surrounding days are the pre rut phase down over here. Good time to be in the woods. So I will be looking to add to add to our score. I have found Bear scat around the property, and all that I find is apple skins in it...Good I'm hunting a apple orchard:D I know this is a deer contest, but I have never taken a bear or yote with the bow. Looking forward to doing both. Ohh...If a buck with 3 on one side steps out, thats legal for our area, he's getting stuck. Good Luck everyone this weekend! arrow32
What happened your son got a deer.LMAO I didn't get one yesterday. I think I've gotten this one 8 point out at the farm patterened out pretty good. I'm making my move this week towards the end when the weather cools. Have my fingers crossed he is a nice one. Maybe I'll get lucky and one of the even bigger ones will walk by.
mrswtnhunt
No luck this weekend. Saw a button buck several times and a couple does. Heard several shots yesterday morning from all around our property. The other hunters in this area shoot everything that walks by. That is why we don't have better quality deer around here. The deer dont have a chance to reach their potential. Supposed to have a cold front move through this Thursday so this weekend should be pretty good.
