Congrats tony,adjam5,and craig!

This may possibly be my last upgrade.

Monday I headed to a spot where I had seen a big buck back about 3 weeks ago.I had a tip that one of my co-workers saw a big buck going back into this area a few days before.

I went to the spot I saw him before, and at about 5:50pm I saw a deer crossing..a looong ways away.Too far for my omega.I decided to go ahead and slip out,and just come back and move closer the next time.I had walked about 350 yds on my way out,and thought I saw something...There was a deer about 175yds away.

I kneeled down, and got my shooting stick out.Propped up my omega, and looked through the scope...Buck...Big buck!I couldn't get a steady prop, and he was on the move.I put it on his shoulders and pretty much don't know what happened after that, but I heard a thump in the middle of my omega sounding off.

As the smoke cleared I saw him trying to get up.Do you know how hard it is to re-load a smoke pole while looking at a big buck trying to get away?Well I did it...barely,and made a better follow up shot.

4.5yr old buck.He is my 2nd best ever, and best with a smokepole.Looking at the books he would make top 10 for that county, but I doubt I will register him.

Got out tonight and saw some good movement in the rain. I was trying out a new spot. I'm sitting there and I see a doe coming across the hill then another deer behind her I just assumed it was another doe WRONG it was a nice buck shooter buck. She had angled up the hill and was going to miss me so I grunted at him didn't pay much mind to it or the doe bleet so I thought heck might as well try rattlin even tho it probly won't work. Hit it and he came running. He was right there 25 yards just behind a bush and nothing. He then circled behind me nothing.

I'm so frustrated I've been on mature bucks time and time again and nothing. I dont know what to do. They just keep getting luckier than me and I'm irretated as all get out right now.:(

mature bucks seem to have that luck factor a lot of times. i wish i could get some of it.

ranch thats a fine buck there. congrats on getting him.

i have been off work for a couple of days to hunt the rut. i passed a 115 class 8 point thursday afternoon at 15 yards. poor thang never even knew i was there.;) friday was nasty

he even looked the other way and stood broadside with his front leg slightly forward. he was really asking for it. i kind of took it as taunting myself;). i kept saying under my breath, you better leave before i shoot you. so he spent close to 20 mins hanging around. he came to my rattling horns after i had been on stand only 20 min.

i was only able to stay on stand until 10:30 friday. i was snowing and blowing so bad and i was froze even though i was dressed for it. the weather has been really nasty the last 24 hours. im sitting here debating to go or not. its blowing like 25 mph and only 30 degrees.

guess the rut only comes around once in a while and i cant shoot a buck from the deck. im outta here.

Congrats Mrswtnhunt! Looking forward to the pics!

Man this team is piling up the points!

Good Luck Tony and Jeramie.

I was up at camp for the last 3 days and all I saw were 3 doe and a button buck. I did however, manage to trap a opossum. The weather is very mild, and our gun opener this Saturday in NY will be slow.

Good luck team.

Anthony

Here is a pic of my buck. 6 point taken on 11/9/2008 with muzzleloader. I got to the stand around 3pm. I had figured with the colder temps that they would feed heavily in the food plots before sunset. At around 4:15pm I saw a doe come out and right behind here was this fella. They came out of some woods about 160 yards away. I watched them for over 45 minutes. They went back and forth along the tree line beside the woods. I had hung a scent bomb on a tree on the way to the blind about 40 yards from me. The wind was blowing directly to him from the scent bomb and it caught his attention. His head went up and his nose was straight up. I hit the can call and now he was on a b-line to me. He got about 80 yards from me and turned broadside........BAMB......he hit the dirt....dropped right in his tracks. After the smoke cleared I didn't see him. The doe he was with was still in the field. I figured if I had missed they would have both darted off the field. The doe kept looking toward where the buck was standing when I shot him. I waited what seemed like an eternity......about 20 minutes.....and got down.......there he was. He is not the biggest deer in this contest by far but he is pretty good for this area. He is real big in the body. I am guessing he was probably 2 1/2 year old.

Good to hear that some people are getting deer and seeing them. Was out last weekend and saw a bunch of scrapes and a rub by my stand, but didn't see anything. This coming Saturday is the end of the early PA archery season. Rifle opens up for two weeks the Monday after Thanksgiving and then late archery opens up the day after Christmas for 2 or 3 weeks. Hopefully I'll be able to get something on the ground in that time.
