Well team.. the hunting where I do alot of my bowhunting has been horrible this year. I have been very fortunate to have harvested that button buck and that doe. I've only had 2 deer within range this year and they're both dead.

But, our gun season opens up Saturday morning and I'll be at our property upstate looking to shoot my first gun deer. I have a buck and a doe tag for up there, plus I'm exempt from the 3 point antler restrictions til I turn 17 (Nov 25th). So I basically have one weekend where if it's brown it's down.

I'll still be bowhunting during the week at the spot behind my house where I live in Rockland, but on weekends I'll be up at the property in Sullivan County.

Well.. right after my brother gets home from school, him, my dad and I will be on our way to the house upstate for the weekend. Gun season opens up tomorrow. I plan on sitting sunrise to sunset. I'll just make sure I pack it some sandwiches, water and snacks. :D

Like I mentioned earlier, I have a buck tag and a doe tag so if it's brown it's down. I think I'm gonna sit in the 2 man ladder stand we have, but I'll be alone, nice and comfortable plus isolated on the property. Forecast says rain for tonight and Saturday but then windy and clear on Sunday. But then of course snow on Sunday night. I have to go home Sunday night because of school on Monday. Isn't that just great? :(

Good job Joe, you going back out in muzzy season for another buck?

I was out all day on Sat and got SOAKED.....about 3:20 i see a deer coming up from below and noticed it was a buck. Very thick area there, I put the scope on him and saw it rounded near his ears and had a brow point so i went to the closest spot and waited. Well i dropped him like a small bass and went over to him and he was a big rounded spike with one brow tine:mad:

So i am out of buck tags till PA openning day, there are size restrictions there so hopefully i get a buck that is bigger.

Not being able to hunt has me going stir crazy...!:D

I hear that. I keep seeing what you guys have dropped and I can't wait. Didn't get to go during muzzleloader so have to wait until regular firearms which opens Dec 3 here in Kansas. I leave Friday to go home for Tday week then head out for deer camp on Sunday. Spend Monday and Tuesday double checking blinds and trying to determine patterns - then hunt Wednesday for 12 days.

This will be the third year for the one I'm after. Had a shot two years ago and blew it. Saw him three times last year but never a good shot. Saw him about a month ago silhouetted on a ridge at dusk. Wow!

Saw a ton of deer Saturday night when I went down to fill feeders and change trail-cam cards. Three 10 pointers (one really nice one), half a dozen 8s (a couple real good ones) and between 20-30 does. All the bucks were following single does so the ruts on here. I should catch the tail end of it.

If nothing else I'll have a doe down on the final evening on Dec 14 - or I'll have 4 doe tags to fill in the January anterless hunt.

My season so far is nothing to brag about......

I'm about the same. Seeing several small bucks, but nothing of any size. Of course my dad shot a nice buck with 12 scorable points last monday out of the stand I've hunted all year. I have seen 2 other 2 1/2 year old bucks out there that I probably will shoot, if I get the oppurtunity. I'm gonna hunt tomorrow evening and all weekend unless/until I shoot one.

This is a five year old buck that i named the big seven at age three. he finally grew a short g3 on his left this year, i am very proud to get such an old deer. His beams are good at 22 and a piece and 23. He has a 15 inch spread, 4 3/4 inch bases, and weighed 220

Congrats dosse, that's a good lookin deer.....

Boy did I screw up on Thanksgiving............

To make a long story short, I left my license at my house in MS, realized it at about 6am Thanksgiving morning while in my stand awaiting daylight......no hunting for me........man was I mad at myself.

I could have gotten a duplicate license but I thought I had to have my Hunter Education Card too (which was with my license in MS), well when I got back to the house Sunday night I found my license and seen that my HEC # was on the license itself so I didn't have to have the actual card with me............if it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all this season...:o

Looks like we are 20th on the scoreboard.:o

We can catch up!!!!!!:D;)

Not with mine. I'm done. It was a very hard year. All the big ones we saw were on the trail cams after dark. One pic of a good one during the day - but all the rest were at night.

Been hunting a large 10 point for 3 years. Saw him once on trail cam but never during the day. Saw a couple other nice 10 points and several large 8's all at night.

Not sure what was wrong this year. We have a 12 day season and I used up most of it trying to get one. We usually have to pick and choose what we want to shoot. This year I only saw four deer the first seven days - two does and two spikes. We had half to full moon the first 7 days and then a one-day blizzard. Moon started coming up later after 7th day and seemed like there was a lot more movement after the blizzard - but we still didn't see the big ones.

8th and 9th days saw a small 8 point, a spike and a huge 10-point that had lost his left side at some point. 10th day a larger 3 and 1/2 year 8 point came out and after several minutes of self-debate decided to shoot. Decision was based on: next day was forecasted for 40-50 mph winds with same and plunging temps for the following (final) day. Plus, there were carcasses found in the area so the poachers were out in force and may have had something to do with the nocturnal patterns.

Decided one in the freezer and on the scoreboard was better than waiting for the January doe season.

He's a typical 8 but will only count 7. Once I got up to him I saw he broke a brow tine at some point and it won't make the 1" minimum. I'll be able to take up to four doe in January - but, since only one counts, I got one for 5 points plus 7 for scorable points for a total of 12 points.

Best I could do considering the season this year. I'll post qualifying pics as soon as I figure out how to download new camera. Will also post some of the "possibles" - they're worth seeing.

But, here he is at the processors.

Nice deer Doug, some good ones on the cam for next year too.

My season is done, i took a 5 point in PA and counted my blessings for a good season. NO huge ones this year but after a two year drought they all were great. Public land hunting in NY and PA is tough so i am very happy with the results.

Bow season 5 point (4 scorable here)

NY gun season 3 point

PA gun season 5 point

Tried for a muzzle loader doe on Sat but i am fighting a bad cold and didn't stay out late. I will post picks and the 1 point upgrade for the team.

Congrats everyone on a fun year!

Spent four days (Jan 1-4) of Kansas' anterless season and saw nothing until last few minutes of third day. Shot what looked like a doe at 160 - ended up being a button buck.

Then, today as I was leaving the farm (as Murphy's Law would have it), I looked out on the alfalfa field and there 120 yards out was the plamated 12-point caught on the trail cam above. Standing there pretty as you please and I could have swore he had a grin on his face and his tongue stuck out at me.

We'll see who's grinning next year.

In spite of the hard hunt this year it was still a good time being out there and enjoying the opportunity. It was a pleasure hunting with you all.

I'm still hanging in there. I killed a doe during Christmas break and got my brother-in-law his first deer ever - a 1.5 yo six pointer that's now in my freezer. Haven't seen any bucks worth shooting. It's getting tough to get up and go when you have a freezer full of meat. Regardless, I'm still out there every chance I get. Got a couple weeks left, but it's not looking too promising. Most of the mature deer have gone nocturnal and will be almost impossible to kill - unless a hot doe makes them do something stupid.
