Rhino
Didn't know you had a cattle problem Washi. The only sure fire way I've found to deal with that situation is getting above them. I understand that's not an option for you. Andrea's idea of the cattle gaps might work though. Got 84 more pics of the 10 point in front of my treestand during the last camera run. He was out there during legal shooting hours 4 afternoons and one morning during that camera run period. For at least the first few days of the season I'll be conservative and hunt him in the afternoon so I don't risk blowing him out of there before daylight in the morning. COME ON OCT. 1st. Washi
Cattle gaps? I'm gonna guess and assume you mean what I call cattle panels. That might work. Sounds like a lot of work though. The other morning I screwed up a setup real good. We put my blind near a trail right where deer cross a fence. In the dark the best spot we could find to put the blind was closer to trail than I would have liked. The deer wouldn't come across the fence. Later I thought I heard a deer come up from behind and run off. Later that morning when I got out of the blind I saw that one of the cedars I had tucked my blind up next to had a rub on it. Then on the way out we found some huge deer tracks on the skidder path we had come in on. I think I had actually set up right on this bucks trail and he took off and circled around me. I have a much better spot picked out to set next time.

That's what I thought Andrea was talking about too. Good luck on the new setup Washi. Heading out in a little while to finish the last few things on my list of our club related chores. Gustav and Ike put us behind schedule this year. Needless to say I'm ready for this part of getting a hunting club ready for deer season to be over. I'll also pull my last 2 cameras and relocate my Reconyx camera. Hopefully I'll have some pics of the 10 point in hard horn that I've been keeping tabs on since mid July. For those of you already hunting...good luck this weekend.

I'll be out at least until Sunday the 5th. If I can get a signal from our camp I'll post a quick note via my iphone if I get a hole in one. Hope everyone hunting is seeing some deer movement. Rhino
Pretty slow down here the first 5 days of our bow season. I missed a doe at 35 yards the 2nd afternoon. My bad! Didn't aim low enough for that much of a duck down on her part at that range. A clean miss that passed just over the top of her back. We are supposed to get some much needed rain the next couple of days so I hope to be back in a treestand Thursday afternoon. Until then, it's catch up time. Jorden
I have fall break this upcoming weekend so I will be going home for and few days for some much needed time in the stand:D. Starting to get some bucks on film up and moving as well as some scrapes and rubs so at least the bucks are active. Good luck to everyone else this week. Jorden
Hey guys, just got back to school after being home for the past couple days for fall break. Went out saturday and the temps were in the 70's. Saw a doe at about 6, she was walking in behind me and if she continued on her path she would give me about a 20 yard shot. Well, she got to the path were I had walked in and got kinda nervious. She continued on and broke into a trot heading into the field and I figured the only chance at a shot I would have would be if I stopped her. I didnt have time to range her but I had pre-ranged a a stalk of corn in the field for 20 yards and when I stopped her I thought she was about 10 yards past the stalk so I pulled back, grunted and shot...and it flew right over her back:(...after she ran off I ranged where she had been standing and it was only 24 yards...needless to say I wasnt to happy...the next night I went out and it was even warmer and I didnt see anything. So my woes continue...that was the second deer I missed this year, and I've only been out four times. Hopefully I can turn it around this weekend, I will be back home to go to the Packer game so I will be able to get out at least once hopefully. Hope everyone else is having a better season:o
Rhino
Well look at it this way Jordan...you're batting 50% on shot opportunities. I sure can't claim that! As they say...3rd time is a charm. Good luck on your next hunt. It finally turned cool down here so I hope the 10 point I've been hunting will move in the daylight for a change. I have a couple of stands to cut him off where I think the bucks have been short stopping to feed on acorns before they head to the field where I've gotten over 300 pics of him and his buddies on trail cams. I need a north wind to hunt those stands based on where I believe he's bedding. That's what we'll have through at least Sunday afternoon. Last Friday afternoon was the only north wind opportunity I had in a while to hunt those stands. I saw 2 of the 8 points I had caught on trial cams. Both came from the area I thought they were bedding so I feel pretty good about that assumption. One was feeding on acorns inside the 5 yard line from my stand during the last 10 minutes of the afternoon but he got a pass. He didn't move on until the last minute or so of legal shooting. He was a legal buck by our criteria but just barely. He looked like an upper end in 2 1/2 year old buck to me. Thin on mass, average tine length, and about a 15" inside spread. He should be a great buck in a couple of years if someone else doesn't take him out of the herd. I'll check back in when I get home Tuesday. Good luck everybody and shoot straight. Jorden
Hey guys, not much going on around here this weekend. Sat last night but didnt see anything. Checked the cameras this morning and found this guy on one of my cuddebacks Had it set up over a fresh scrape and had pictures of four different bucks using it including him. Had six pictures of him total. Hope everyone else is having a fun and safe season:)
Rhino
Nice buck jordan. Hope you meet up with him. Spent Friday through Monday hunting. With the cooler weather the deer sure moved a lot better. I had some close encounters with a few 8 points while I was hunting the area the 10 point lives in but the 10 didn't show. I'm still trying to hold out for him while I'm hunting in that area. I had an absolute great hunt Sunday afternoon. Saw a total of 24 deer that afternoon including 5 - 8 point bucks. 2 of those locked up about 30 yards from my stand and put on a sparring show. Then a small pig came in and spooked all the deer off. If the pig hadn't hung up at the 50 yard line until dark I would have put a hole in him. I'm regrouping now for my Illinois trip. I'll leave here around dawn this Saturday and start my 5 day hunt there in Pike Co. Sunday morning.

Washi
I haven't been doing real well so far. I had a 40 yard shot at a doe and thought I would let her get closer and she turned straight towards me and never offered me a decent shot after that. I could have shot a fawn but I ended up waiting too long again. I've had a four point at about fifteen yards twice and a five point about the same once but we can't legally shoot anything with less than four points on one side here anymore. Then after it cooled down there has been almost no deer movement at all. I think the moon being mostly full has them out feeding during the night. I'll get something eventually. Rifle season isn't too far off.
Rhino
Gathering my gear for my Illinois trip. Leaving around dawn tomorrow. If I get a hole in one I'll try to drop a short note here from my iphone. That is if I can get a signal. In the mean time...happy hunting teammates.
