BTW, I have one more buck tag and am hoping for an upgrade. How do you like this guy we caught on a trail cam last week?

We've dubbed him "The Bull". I'm unable to hunt for a couple of weeks, but later this month, I'm after him 24/7.

I'm having trouble sleeping in the meantime! :D

Thanks for all the congrats. It was *a lot* of fun calling in that Big Eight!

Now my mind is stuck on "The Bull". Thinking of getting a new IR camera (maybe a Cuddeback Capture IR) and trying to use it to get a better grasp on which areas he's traveling through and staging in. I'm finding myself spending way, WAY too much time thinking about that buck! :)

Who all's hunting? I'm heading to the country tomorrow and will be in the woods bright and early Saturday morning for our rifle opener. I'm dedicating every day I can hunt to Mr. Big Buck, aka "The Bull". May just get a few more points for the team if I can put things together and get on him.

BTW, we currently appear to still be in the the lead, though a couple of teams are hot on our heels: http://www.realtree.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76310

Hope everyone is getting a chance to get out and hunt the rut!

Already got my buck and we only have one tag here. Good luck Todd. Elnor, those pics are great -- congrats again! Good luck getting "the bull". That is a beautiful trailcam pic.

I'll be away this weekend with the family at out camp in Elk county, PA. Opening day of rifle is Monday. I'm excited to see how my dad and rest of the family does.

Be safe. Good luck to all still hunting!

Well guys/gals. Tagged out yesterday with the rifle. I didn't notice that he had broken off both browtines but still a few points for the team. I'll still do some bowhunting but this was a tough few days. I saw very little deer movement---only saw one doe in 4 days of all day hunting. A button buck and a little spike. This was the only mature deer that I saw.

Congrats, dogdoc and Oneida Man!

Once we get Oneida Man's buck on the contest entry thread, we should be back in the lead. Excellent!

I'm still working on my upgrade. I saw and shot the big boy and he collapsed on the spot Friday morning. But as I got out of my stand after watching him lay there on his side, belly up, for a couple minutes, he jumped up and ran!!! Bright red blood but little of it makes me think I hit high and spinal shocked him. I trailed and unfortunately jumped him from his bed, but no chance at a followup shot. He ran like he wasn't hurt and there was little blood in his bed after he'd been there three hours, so I don't think I mortally wounded him. Makes me sick at my stomach just thinking about him laying there when I could have put another bullet in him...

I'm not sure how best to proceed; will he return to that bed anytime soon? Thought about setting up doe-in-heat scents upwind of the bed and then bleating & making tending grunts, but I don't know how soon he'll feel "up to it" and don't want to pressure him at the wrong time.

Suggestions?

Well guys, doesn't look like I'll be upgrading my score this year:(. Didn't see anything during my last 3 days in GA. And I've already burnt my buck tag for Ohio.

Good hunting to the rest of you that still have a buck tag in your pocket. I'll be working on population control.

I kept the faith and hunted Mr. Big through the end of rifle season, but unfortunately never saw him again. I've had a good year, but he'll be "the one that got away", at least until I (hopefully) put a tag on him next fall!

All that's left for me this year is a final weekend or two of DMAP doe management. Who else is still hunting?

I hunted a little bit last weekend. Didn't see Mr Big again (didn't have a buck tag for him at this late date anyway), but a neighbor did see him four days ago. I'm hoping he'll hang on until next fall, bigger and better than ever!

That's it for me. I'm cleaning my guns and starting to think about a little squirrel and rabbit hunting before getting after turkeys in about three months. How are things wrapping up for everyone else?
