MCH
Hey Congrats on the Doe,you can add the doe and than if your able to get a buck you can trade out the points for the more scorable buck. I'm not too proud of the pic I had to take. I'm normally good for at least 3 doe a year, so I'm hoping to at least get a better pic.
VABuckSlayer
Good job on the doe Kevin! We have plenty of time to upgrade. Just save that picture in case you end up needing it! Congrats on your first kill of the season!
KirkV
Success! Well I had success on the first morning out! It was a wonderful yearling that will be great on the grill! I will get more bigger does so I will not put it in the contest. I have a posy in the bowhunting section labeled 2 blade rage graphic showing the entrance and exit holes from the 2 blade mechanical. Unreal!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VABuckSlayer
Good job Kirk! Congrats on the kill! I had a close call yesterday. Had 2 deer under my stand when I got there. Bumped them off and after getting set up I could hear deer moving to my left. A gust of wind kicked up all of a sudden and took my scent in there direction and I got busted. One deer was a buck, the second was small, and the third was a big deer but I couldn't tell what it was. Figures... that was the only wind for the evening. I had another doe come close about 15 minutes after that but she fed off in a different direction and never gave me a shot. Close call last night... thought I was going to put some points on the board for us. BTW... when I was headed back to the house and got out into the field I could make out 3 deer in my food plot in the moon light. The lead deer was a decent buck. I called my wife and had her drive my truck to the field to run them off so I wouldn't get busted walking across the field to my house. I'm pretty sure it was a 2.5 year old 7pt I've been seeing a lot of with 2 of his small buddies. I'm going to hunt a different stand today that is in that area behind the food plot. Those 3 bucks will get a free pass though! Here's a picture of the 3 Amigos! :D:D Here's the plot they were in right behind the house. johnf
I've got my stands out and have plans to go out tonight, Thursday evening and Saturday. I've seen lots of sign but no deer so far. I've got an acorn rage block out up the trail I'm on and it looks like they are hitting it. Hopefully it will be a few minutes before sundown tonight. VABuckSlayer
Went out last night and only saw 1 little bitty doe. She came up and sniffed the climbing sticks on the tree. I won't get to hunt again until next week. Hopefully things will get better then.
MCH
I'm currently in Stillwater, Oklahoma(4 hrs from home) training and won't get to hunt until Saturday. Good luck to those that are hunting now.
johnf
Went out last night and got rained on about 30 minutes before sundown. I gave up and left a little after sundown. Oh yeah, the rain was pellets. Some guys came out about 200 yards from where I was and started shooting skeet They looked pretty surprised when they saw me coming out of the woods. Don't understand why, my truck was only about 100 yards from theirs.
KirkV
Well I went out this morning and put another nice doe on the ground. I will enter her in the contest just to start building some points. Here is a shot of her. Kirk
MCH
Congratulations Kirk! If I get another doe this weekend, I'll enter her as well. Hopefully, I'll have someone available to take a decent pick. Plus, since I work for a bank.....I get Monday off.(Columbus day)
Equalizer
Yeah!!!! its snowing in montana. hope that this makes the deer moove a little more than it did before the storm hit.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MCH
Went out this morning expecting big things. 15 minutes after daylight, a .22 goes off about 100 yards from me. A few minutes later it fires again and a squirrel about 50 yards in front of me falls to the ground. Needless to say, I am ticked off. Can't say much since its public ground, but I let the guy know that I hunt this spot regularly. It wasn't a nice discussion either.
KirkV
That is always the delima of hunting public ground. Maybe next time you will have better results!
VABuckSlayer
That would have freaked me out a little Kevin! I will get back at it this week. I couldn't hunt much last week. It's suppose to be warm the next few days. The weekend looks good though. Friday and Saturday should be good hunts I hope!!! I'm ready to sling some arrows around!!! MCH
Hunted all day Monday at my lease in Honobia. Saw one doe, one spike and one 200 lb black bear.:D First one I've ever seen in the wild! Great day.
whitetailtrax
Sorry I haven't been around at all guys. Work and family comittments have really kept me out of the woods so far this year. I'm patiently waiting for the bighorn rut to start so I can concentrate on my sheep tag the first couple weeks of November. Tried to hunt a day last weekend, but the snow set in and I couldn't glass for sheep. Did see a group of nine rams before the snow came in, but neither of the two mature rams in the group were quite what I wanted. Took a drive and stumbled onto a dandy bull moose and a couple very nice whitetails. I think it was a good antler year in Montana. I will try to provide more updates on my sheep hunting and perhaps I'll get around to shooting a deer as well - rifle season opens in 9 days. Keep after em team! MCH
Good luck with the rams. Keep us updated for sure! I'm headed out in about 30 minutes. We've got a cold snap coming through so I'm hoping to see a lot of action.
VABuckSlayer
I passed on a young 7pt last night. I wanted to release an arrow bad but couldn't do it. I'm going again tonight and also in the morning. Getting cooler here too... just need it to stop raining some!!
MCH
Same here, VA. Passed on a young 6 point yesterday morning. Was disappointed, though. Every weather website I looked at called for a NNE or NE wind. Got to my stand only to find that the wind was from the S the majority of the morning. The young buck didn't smell me, but I'm pretty sure if a mature deer came close, they did. Headed out this morning. Hopefully, the predicted NW or W wind will be correct. MCH
Laid the smack down on another doe this morning. The Rage broadhead really did its job. She ran less than 25 yards before piling up. I added her to the contest but hope to upgrade her before the year is up.
KirkV
ell guy's I hope my being picky does not bite me in the butt but I passed a 135 class 10 point yeterday morning hopeing for something bigger. They are out there I just hope I can intercept one.
VABuckSlayer
Way to smack down the does Kevin! Congrats! I hope to at least do the same one day this week! Kirk, I don't think I could pass a 135" 10pt. You must have some great bucks to hunt! Good luck!
KirkV
Way to go on the doe Kevin, and yes I hope to do a real nice buck this year!
VABuckSlayer
Had some good chasing going on Tues. night. Couldn't get a shot though. Wed. I had deer all in the field early when I got home. Saw nothing from my stand. On a good note... my aunt called me last night and gave me permission again to hunt her 100 acre farm. She's selling it to the county for a park so I couldn't hunt it last year. I killed a 26" wide 10pt there back in 1998. He was the smaller of the 2 I was after that year. The big one got hit by a car. He was a 28" 8pt. I can't wait to get in there and hunt it again. Might go tomorrow after work! Here's the 26" 10pt I shot with my muzzleloader in 98.
