Well, I can upgrade my doe. Today was opening of blackpowder and I took my son, Chase(5) along with me. I had already made up my mind to take anything that came within range. As luck would have it, a 6 point came in from a direction that Chase was watching so he got to see it first. Couldn't pass it up so I put a 80 yard shot right behind the shoulder and he piled up within sight of our stand. I've never seen Chase so excited.

I've killed bigger bucks, that's for sure, but I'm not sure if I've killed one that meant more to me that this 6'er.:D

I'm seeing lots of bucks, well a few, but nothing legal. I've seen deer every time I've gone out but only one I could shoot. It was a very small yearling doe, probably 50-60lbs and I don't want to burn a tag on just a few quarter pounders and some jerky. I want some real meat.

Way to go Kevin! That is great. I may be in a similar situation with my boy (6 years old) later this season. Our smokepole season comes in this Sat. and I have a blind set up behind the house. We'll see how it goes. Congratulations on your slaying!!! ;)

I won't get too many chances this week to hunt after work. Just Tues. and Thurs. This is our last week of bow season (we can bow hunt all year though). I need to find the time to sight in the smokepole before Sat. It should still be on from last year though but I want to make sure. Can't wait!!!

How's everyone doing???

I'm headed up the 10th to our lease in Honobia, pronounce HO-nubbie.:D

A friend and I will be staying 3 nights and bowhunting non-stop.

Gun season opens up Saturday Morning. I've seen fress scrapes and rubbs alll over the place, but not legal bucks yet. I've got some friends with 200 acres in the middle of otherwise inaccessable national forrest land that are going to let me hunt there Monday and Tuesday. They said they've seen a lot of deer movement where there at.

Hopefully I'll have something to post by wed.

I'm still passing small bucks. Should have probably shot a doe last Sarturday but hate to shoot them when a big boy could be following her now. I will have some vacation time happening the end of next week. I'll have 5 straight days to hunt and our gun season comes in next Saturday. I should at least put a doe down. I haven't given up yet!!! ;)

Nice buck there MCH - way to go! I haven't had a chance to chase deer around yet. My son, Tanner, was able to find a mule deer to his liking on opening day - 2 Sundays ago. This was his second deer and he wanted a 4-point (Western count) and that's what we found. He made a terrific shot at about 200-250 yards. He is very confident with his 7mm-08 - that is a fantastic caliber if anyone is in the market for a youth caliber.

I'm headed over to Rock Creek in the morning to finally get serious about sheep hunting for a few days. If I don't find what I'm looking for, I will be back over the week of Thanksgiving. I will post some pics next week if I'm successful. In the meantime, here is a picture of Tanner and his young 4x4 Montana muley.

this weekend i was in North Dakota bowhuntin.and the rut kicked off when the thursday and friday were blizzard and made two to three feet of snow fall to the ground. I sat in the stand for a day or two and saw some absolute monsters but they just wouldnt offer me a shot. yesterday i went out at 11:30 and sat the rest of the day and saw some good deer cruiseing around but couldnt get a shot. at about 5:30 I heard a doe bleat in front of me about 150 yards and she was being followed by a BIG!! main frame 5-by-5 with a couple stickers. they ran around for about fifteen min. and then tha doe turned and headed towards me. The buck followed behind her about twenty five yards and as she walked by me at about 10 yards outside of my shooting lanes i was so mad because i thought the buck would follow her and i wouldnt get a shot. but she circled around and came out to my left where i could shoot. the buck cut right under my stand and I drew back and shot him at about 12 yards. he ran like 60 yards and fell dead!!!!

He will score roughly about 167" he was an 8 by 6 and had a 19 2/8 inside spread I will get pictures up in a day or so.

Way to go guys... y'all are putting them on the ground! Congrats to you all! Equalizer.... 167"... that's a stud! Congrats!!

I passed on an 18" or so 6pt on Monday. Maybe should have shot him but there are bigger bucks on that property. I'm hunting Sat. and Mon-Tues. next week. Our rut is kind of wierd this year! Hope it picks up soon!
