punkinslinger
Had a hog of a 7 pt that I had not seen in 3 weeks at 30 yards at 1 pm today and a limb saved his but...could not shoot. He had no clue I was there...sniffing the leaves like an old bird dog.

elkoholic
Finally got to do a little rifle hunting the past couple of days but there was little action. I was mainly focused on trying to get one for my son, but we did not see any deer yesterday and this morning we had a fleeting glimpse of a big bodied, high racked buck that did not offer a shot opportunity. With the rut a week or so away the action is sure to pick up. Tomorrow we will give it another try and my daughter will be here as well so between the three of us maybe we will do some good. Flintlock1776
I am just curious, what is out total thus far? We have until 2/21/09 by the way, that is when my season ends. I don't know any other state going that long, are there any?
Ohiobucks
I saw a really nice 8 pointer this morning on the way to work, standing next to a doe out in the middle of a hay field. The only reason he is out during daylight in that wide open space is obvious, she was in estrous. I'm going out tonight for an hour or so, this time of year, that's all it takes sometimes. The right place at the right time.... I have a feeling that this weekend is going to be good though.....
punkinslinger
Just got back from Illinois...weather was lousy...75* wind..no daytime movement. Sat on an isolated corn field most evenings...missed a 10pt that was in the 130 class and saw another pig 2 different times at about 60 yards...it was a main frame 10 with 2 stickers..one off the back of each G-2..probably a 150 class. Got to see the trailcam pics of him too. Oh well I had my chance. Only one kill out of 10 guys..some passed up shots on smaller bucks that scored lower than they had taken prior. Hope to get out Sat then Mon and Tues...too tired to get out tonite. Drove from 7:30 last nite until I got home at 12:30pm today... 3 drivers but not much sleep. Saw alot of roadkills around Ohio into WV along 70 and almost smacked a small 8 with the truck.
Ohiobucks
Sorry to hear about your trip punkin, 1st week of Novenber in Illinois shouldn't be 75 degrees. I'm sure it was not how you pictured it. I filled another doe tag tonight. A smaller doe came in alone, I told myself if there was no bucks following her, and she gives me a shot, I was going to take it. She did, and I did. I'm off Monday and Tuesday to hunt, the weather is looking good, and the deer are starting to move more. Hope to add more points for the team. punkinslinger
I am off Mon-Tues and will give it an all-dayer if I see some movement. The wife got a doe tonite...with the car!!! Bounced off and took off...nice dent in the hood.

punkinslinger
Well here he is..not much width but good mass. Perfect shot, double lunged with a Slick Trick 100 grain Mag. He went about 50 yards and expired. Sure was cold Monday...slept in today!!
elkoholic
Way to go punkinslinger! I wish I was seeing some action in my neck of the woods. It has been raining and foggy every day for the past ten days or so. It should be 20 degrees colder and snowing. Not much daytime movement at all and I have seen only doe and fawn. Quite a few fresh scrapes and new rubs so I'm thinking the buck are in the pre-rut mode yet and not actively chasing. There is a lot of season left so maybe an opportunity will present itself yet. 3seasons
Congrats punkinslinger on a nice buck. It is rough down here in MS hope this front will pick things up. need2hunt
Congrats Punkin! Sunday morning had an encounter with a nice buck that was a big sissy. He was 50-60 yards out and was trying to decide if he was going to walk down the trail towards my stand, I gave him one small grunt and he turned tail and ran like satan himself was after him... not quite the results I was looking for LOL Sunday night I shot a doe. Got to work this morning and Vicki asked if I could go and film out in Colorado, I said yes when we leaving? Her reply was tomorrow LOL. So I'll be gone for a little while, I'll be filming my coworker Zendal and R&V will be hunting/filming together. I'll let you know how it went when I get back. Hopefully I'll be back in time for the first Illinois gun season which starts the 21st

Was out today after the 3" snowfall we had scouting a spot for me and my sons buddy ladder stand. Found 2 spots ...I'll let him decide when we go back to take a closer look. One spot had several deer tracks past it. Getting ready for the bear opener next Monday too.
