Guest ricebran92
I went to the local feed store and bought a bag of mixed plot seed 44%wheat 44%oats 12%ceral grain to try planting? I went ahead and bought some "Rangi Rape" I dont know anything about this stuff it will be planted in fairley sandy soil but the ground is saturated from hurricane gustav if i have to i will wait till it dries up. Does anyone know how to grow this rape?
dogdoc
the brassicas (rape, turnips) are a small seed so don't bury them too deep. If your ground is still very wet you could just broadcast them on the surface and drive over the seeds to "smash" them into the soil. What I do on my type of soil is till and then just broadcast then cover by dragging a homemade drag made from chainlink fence behind my ATV.--Lots of options but just don't bury deeper than 1/4 inch. MUDRUNNER
Last year I planted rape and turnips and just broadcast it on top of the soil and it grew pretty darn good.
wtnhunt
Last year I planted rape and turnips and just broadcast it on top of the soil and it grew pretty darn good. Pretty well done the same here with fall mixes with rape seed broadcast over a good firm seedbed and gotten good germination.

LETMGROW
I truly believe brassicas will grow on a concrete block. Like Dog Doc said, don't bury the seed. Spread it out and get it to the soil somehow and it will grow!

backwoods07
Last year I planted rape and turnips and just broadcast it on top of the soil and it grew pretty darn good. Same here. Softball size turnips. Too bad the deer went out of their way to avoid them.
