dbHunterNY
Does anyone know for sure if deer will eat winter rye? I was thinking about clearing a small area in the woods where some sun light shines through and planting it. I've got some for free and thought I might as well use it. I know little about it. - Dan
Jorden
Not quite sure, never planted the stuff but I suppose it wouldnt hurt to give it a try.
rhine16
YES.... My Grandad's plant huge fields of nothing but rye for cows, however, it is for deer until season is out. Once the late season rolls around, we have a much better chance over rye fields than the plots we plant.
wtnhunt
Yes they will. The deer here love wintergrazer rye from pennington which is a rye grain.

Dawg
I've had better luck with rye than anything else.
Tominator
I've had better luck with rye than anything else. Ditto. I planted Imperial Clover a few years ago which had rye and brassicas mixed in. The deer totally ignored the brassicas, hit the clover here and there, and destroyed the rye. dbHunterNY
Rye it is It looks like I have my answer. I'll work on getting it in this weekend when I go to my main hunting ground (family farm). I'm planting it in a natural funnel so it should only make the spot even better. Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Good luck this season, Dan
