superguide
Re: Well the Patriots did it!! BYE BYE STEELERS!!! The game was lost when they kicked that field goalon the two yard line-when the coach has no cojones what do you expect.
snapper
Re: Well the Patriots did it!! BYE BYE STEELERS!!! The game was lost because of the turnovers. You can't win a championship game with that many mistakes. Congrats to the Pats!
wtnhunt
Re: Well the Patriots did it!! BYE BYE STEELERS!!! [ QUOTE ] Ben Roethlisberger just made rookie mistakes and it seems that the patriots don't know how to lose a playoff game! [/ QUOTE ] The patriots make other teams make mistakes. That is what they do and obviously they are very good at it.
buckbuster11
Re: Well the Patriots did it!! BYE BYE STEELERS!!! Well the Patriots did exactly what I was afraid of. Dillon didnt do much outside of a nice td run but it was the big passes over the middle I was afraid of and that is exactly what happened. Plus as already mentioned, way to many turnovers. Same old story for the Steelers in big games, they make to many mistakes in the passing game. The Patriots were the better team yesterday no doubt about it. Do they ever make it to the playoffs? I don't think any Brown's fan can say much about the Steeler's/Pat's game.

VTbowman
Re: Well the Patriots did it!! BYE BYE STEELERS!!! Poor Big Ben. In his defense, he did play with 2 broken toes and a, what looked like, a hurt thumb. However, he threw the ball right to us twice. I knew up front Dillon was going to be shut down most of the game but had faith he would sneek something by at least once. I was not surprized that the bus was targeted so often too. He played great even though he was so covered. Brady just has way to much experience in this type of game and the rest of the team so just so well balanced. Pats in 2004!!! snapper
Re: Well the Patriots did it!! BYE BYE STEELERS!!! I think both teams are good and have many weapons. The prob. was a couple of things...Cower should have been a coach and pulled Ben when he couldn't perform. And Ben should have done what was best for the team (rookie not wanting to sit) and taken himself out of the game. Not that Maddax is very good...but he has some experience and didn't have broken toes or a sort thumb.
VTbowman
Re: Well the Patriots did it!! BYE BYE STEELERS!!! Agreed. I was always saying that the X factors were not going to be specific players in that game like other were claiming. That coaching and surprize defense packages were going to take the game or be "the X factor". Coach for coach I believe Belichick had that hands down. JMO. buckbuster11
Re: Well the Patriots did it!! BYE BYE STEELERS!!! Ben didnt actually have broken toes....I'm not sure why he said he did but Cowher made a point the next day to say that he definately didnt. Even if he did...he played better after he supposedly hurt the toes then before. As far as putting in Maddox, I think Cowher did the right thing by keeping Ben in as long as there was not an injury. You have to go with what got you there and I seriously doubt they would of even been playing in that game if it wasnt for Ben's play throughout the season. Also, by throwing in Maddox who only played one game since hurting his elbow in week 2, I dont think you can expect any better of a performance then what Ben was doing against that Patriot defense. As far as the coaching is concerned, the clear difference in my mind is Belichicks ability to gameplan for a certain game. The Pats really dont have an identity, they can come out throwing 50 times or they can run it 50 times...depends on the opponent and what they do best. For example, ever since Belichick has been with the Pats he tries to beat the Steelers with deep passes. He recognizes that he probably isnt going to get anywhere trying to pound the ball on the ground especially early on. He has done this everytime they have played and thats why I said before the game that I didnt think Dillon would be much of a factor. Heck, in the opener a couple years ago they threw the ball on Pittsburgh 40 some times in a row and crushed them. He knows the strength of the Steeler D is stopping the run so he just stays away from it. The Steelers on the other hand will not change regardless of who they play. You have to take into account that the other team is likely going to do something drastic to take away your strengths and make you beat them another way if the other team is good enough to do so. The Steelers never make that adjustment and thats ok in the regular season because they can push most teams around. But when it comes to the big games, it backfires. However, in defense of Cowher, he has never had a qb and a passing game that is capable of getting it done so they have to put all their faith in the running game. Thats why I think if Ben grows into the qb everyone thinks he can be, they will eventually get to the big show.

[ QUOTE ] I'm not sure why he said he did but Cowher made a point the next day to say that he definately didnt. [/ QUOTE ] Why does Cowher keep saying things like this? He said several times that there wasn't anything wrong with Ben's thumb...but we clearly seen them putting water on it in 10 degree weather? Why would Ben lie about his toes? The last few games of the season....the Steelers looked like the Browns...not a championship team. There was clearly something wrong with Ben's thumb and now supposily his toes. I'm not a profootball coach, but it doesn't take a rocket sceintist to see if your doing something and it isn't working....try something else. Bettis wasn't having a great game, but it seemed like Hayes could turn the corner and get some yards...why not run him more? If your QB throws a few interceptions before half time....try another one! VTbowman
Re: Well the Patriots did it!! BYE BYE STEELERS!!! I have been saying it all throughout the playoffs. The Pats "X factor" is Belichick's ability to devise defense custom and specific for each team they play. But not just that, he does it for how that particular team is playing at the time, not based on regular season or whatever the numbers are saying at the time. The Steelers are an awesome force on the run. Now with Ben, I think the tides may be turning in the next couple years. It will be interesting to see how he grows. As far as the Pats players. No one is a super star. Not one player is out there out performing the rest. Yes Brady get alot of press but all QBs do. The field generals... LOL The team is very balanced and 1 guy seems to be able to play 3 positions at any given time. Not only that but the 2nd and 3rd string guys seem to have as much talent as the 1st stringers. Thats what makes the Pats so hard to beat. They can run good, not great, but very good. They can pass reall good too, especially in the tough games. The preformance level never really drops or shy rockets. they just play their game. I love it!

All I know is in the two playoff games he was completely air mailing guys left and right. As for the toes....I dont have a clue what that is about. Ben told the press he broke them....when Cowher heard about that he called Ben and Ben told him that he just aggravated them (he broke them in college).
