Covehnter
Okay this is just a shot in the wind. I go to the University of Ga and have made a couple friends that hunt. Come to find out one buddy has grandparents that live in Texas and have between 100 and 200 acres. Also found out that my roommate's girlfriend has a several hundred acre ranch in the family that we are welcome on. I'm guessin' you can see where i'm going w/ this. It's like a 1 in 1000 chance that i'll actually be able to get there with a college schedule but when information like this strikes me, i must investigate. Anyways is the Rio population pretty consistant throughout Texas? The smaller of the 2 places is in a place called Medina, an hour or so outside San Antonio the other is really close to the Rio Grande (less than an hour) next to or in the Big Bend Natonal Park i think she said, i was just going to throw this up in the air and see what would come back down. Thanks alot to anyone that can shed some light on this for me! Cove
redbeard
Re: Texas Fellas. . . . Hey Cavehunter, you lucky dog. Texas is eat up with turkeys. Not sure about the Medina section but I went by Big Bend about 10 years ago during my quest for the slam and saw lots of turkeys. Got a speeding ticket just past big bend I hunted in San Angelo and the Rios were everywhere. From what I understand only the eastern section of Texas has eastern birds. If you can't go, send ME! Covehnter
Re: Texas Fellas. . . . Thanks, the only info i've gotten so far is that the Medina area should be infested w/ Rios and that the Big Bend Area is virtually uninhabited. Was told there were counties as big as NE'ern states w/ populations around 4 digits. Say you hunted around the Big Bend National Park? do you know if it is open for hunting or were you going private? Gus
Re: Texas Fellas. . . . I think Medina is in Bandera county and the other place your talking about is in Brewster county. If that is the correct counties then the season for both of them is from April 2 to May
redbeard
Re: Texas Fellas. . . . No I didn't hunt around Big Bend, just went by it and saw lots of birds. I hunted a private ranch.
