deerslayer06
Hunting in Monroe County...have logged 29.5 hours in stand (seen 17 total deer on stand-waiting on Mr. Bigg). Went out last night and only saw one doe. Things seem to be slowing down a tad down here. I'm hoping this is just because of the saying "all is quiet before the STORM." matthewjr83
went out this morning, man was it a nice and cold morning, well i did not see anything until exactly 10 am, had 2 does come 15 yards, but i did not have a bonus tag! oh well, i was hoping for mr. right be behind them somewhere but he wasn't, i could tell the does did not seem pushed. at least i saw something, it's always good to see something. and plus it was kinda cool this morning, the woods was raining leaves, neat sight. going back out friday night and the weekend. mathews4life84
i'm liking what i am seeing !!!! i also spent the afternoon on stand on one of our properties in steuben co. and was blown all over the place all night! i was sitting over a standing corn field. i spotted a great 3.5 yr.old,135" 8 point bedded in a clearing in the corn. i could have easily stalked this deer all things considered. i did this knowing there are alot bigger deer in the area. i opted to let the opportunity pass and right at last light he ran by me at 12 yds. i also hunted on the 28th and rattled in two small bucks. it seems that tonight should be rocking tonight on stand. im gunna bang the horns and hope mr. bib walks out of the corn to investigate. good luck to all!! i will keep ya'll updated once i let the air out of him!! AaronS
I've been seeing a lot of little bucks and a few does in Crawford Co. (southwest IN). Sunday evening in the swirling wind I saw 10 deer....4 bucks and 6 does....but no shot opportunities on the does. I plan to sit as long as possible Saturday and do some calling. With highs near 70, we'll see if the big boys move or if they'll wait another week.
Guest STACK
Looking forward to the weekend! This weekend should be exciting. I feel like we're on the edge of everything breaking loose. It's supposed to be a little warm though, so don't know how that will affect things. Either way, it'll be nice to be in the woods all weekend. Good luck to everyone! Guest STACK
IN Hunter, nope, sure don't. I'm hunting near Spearsville Indiana, which is Northern Brown County and just leased some property in Hardinsburg, Indiana, which is Orange County. I've been out about 8 times and have seen 7 doe and the same spike twice. I haven't seen any large bucks yet and just now starting to see some good scrapes. Like I said, this weekend should be interesting. Good luck getting one of those brutes you saw today!
Guest STACK
Morning hunt - 10/31 Got in my stand at about 6:45 this morning and sat stone cold still for 4 hours. Didn't see a thing - well, except for a dozen or so squirrels making too much damn noise. I think my next hunt will be for squirrels. Hillbilly
I went out to my stand, but I had a small heart surgery and doctor told me not to bow hunt. Well I went out but just left the bow at home. Saw a pig of a buck out about a mile to my south, he was bird dogging a doe. This boy is the one I am after. He's a main frame 6x6 with some trash on his brow tines. His G3's are crab claw's. I say he might go 170's. He's a 6 1/2 year old.

BR44
Went out in search of stand placement Saturday (25th). To windy Sunday to try to hang anything. Got back out Wednesday to start. Just in that short period, several rubs have been made. Went out this morning, had 1 doe close (35yds) & another down a ways in the field. Finally had to get down for the morning, kept nodding off (late night at work), better safe than sorry. Might do a afternooner.

matthewjr83
clrs go ahead, i think it's a great idea to help your fellow nc hunters out. this has been a great thread, i figured it would be good to talk to everyone in the same state to find out what everyone is saying. THANKS to all the guys who have made this a great site, over 1000 look ats, its great and it is thanks to all of you. Ok now for deer hunting, i went out yesterday morning, at 855 had a doe come in, at first i did not know what it was so i grunted, she came in at 20 yards and was going down a path to the water, well the excavating company that i hunt on decided to make a quick day work (1 hr). this stopped the doe from goin further, i was going to let her walk anyways but behind her was something, she stood there in front of me for 5 minutes and kept looking back. well she turned around and went into the middle of the woods, well when she did this i noticed a good size rack turning after her. only if they weren't working would i have a chance at this girl goin on and this guy following, only God knows. But i'll try to get back out there tonight.
BobRooney
Confused I'm confused...I have had a difficult time trying to pattern the deer on my huntin land this year. I know they are there but can't for the life of me figure them out. Is it unusual for deer to bed in the most pressured areas?

MKG1985
Nice buck! Just goes to show that we can and do grow some big bucks here in the Hoosier state! I'm still waiting on mine. It's been a slow year for me so far. Very few bucks and none worth thinking about shooting. I'm on vacation all this week so I'm going to hunt hard and hopefully big daddy will stroll on by. mathews4life84
I wish i could turn back time!!! I went out saturday morning and saw a 150" and a 180". That night i sat in the same stand and the 180" was back out in the corn with a hot doe. The next morning the wind was still good for that stand so i went back to it. I saw a few little deer right at first light. Once they moved off i blind grunted and used the can. It wasnt 2 minutes later the 180" was 55yds. From me looking hard for the calling. He worked a scrape at about 40 yds. I didnt have a shot at that point and he started to move off so i gave him a snort weeze and he locked up . Then he kept walking away and i did it again and he b-lined straight for me. He got within 15 yds. And locked up looking for the other buck. I was at full draw and he glanced up at me and didnt see me but i knew he thought something was wrong. He was quartering to me pretty hard and i settled my pin right behind his shoulder and released. The arrow struck and he bolted off. He made it 300 yds. Before i lost sight of him. I knew something wasnt right so i gave him 5 hrs. To lay down and hopefully expire. I got a few buddies rounded up and started on the blood trail. We trailed him for over a thousand yards and he jumped up @ 10 yds. I came to full draw and waited for him to get in the open. He was about 60yds. Away and i let it fly. It was headed directly for his spine and at the last second he turned right and cut hair off his neck. The search continued through the cornfield and we jumped him up again. At this point we were just trying to push him to exhaustion. Long story short we never caught back up to him. I gathered 3 of my buddies and the land owner whos property he ran on to and we did a body search the next morning through the huge swamp. We found nothing. What i would do to have the opportunity to redo the shot. I hope he is still alive and i can put him down for good come firearms season. IN_hunter
got out a little late this morning and had a nice shooter buck out in the field with a doe. So i snuck up behind the blind and tried to grunt at him, didnt pay any attention to it, so i hit the tips of the antlers together a little and that got his attention. He then started looking at the doe again so i hit the antlers together again and he started coming right to me. The weird thing is he stopped at about 60 yards and just started trotting towards the woods away from me. I tried to snort wheeze but then he started going faster. What could have caused this? I know he neither saw nor smelled me.
