Indiana - great forum topic

I hunt NW Indiana and have a cousin hunting about 45 minutes south of Valpo - He saw 2 bucks together on opening day. One 12 pointer and a small 6 - they were bedding together so it will be awhile before light rattling, scents and the like will do any good, I think.

I'm going out Sunday morning for my first hunt of the year. I'll be hunting public land in October so Lasalle Fish and Wildlife better be ready. I picked out a great spot next to no-mans land and am really excited about it. The area I hunt has the best opportunities. I see deer 90% of the time I go out and the only time I've missed is when a branch veered my arrow astray. So I'm excited (did I mention that).

My goal - take a deer within the first 2 hours and just wait patiently for November 8th (Minnesota rifle season). Last year I took 6 deer between 3 states that I hunt, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota.

I'm excited...again!!!!

well i went out thurs morning, nothing, but droppings all over, corn still is up, tried friday evening, nothing, went to another stand saturday morning and had a doe and 2 yearlings walk by about 10 yards, drew back on the big doe and she got spooked, i think a lil one saw me draw back, they didn't snort, just picked up the pace a lil faster, have military obligations this weekend and next weekend... may go out thursday morning, but going to really concentrate on the prerut, so from the 23 on i'll be in the woods a lot, hopefully the corn will be out!

hey guys, I hunt NE Indiana and have had a very good season so far. I shot a doe friday and have been trying to get my girlfriend on her first deer ever with a bow, so far, 2 misses, hopefully tonight will be the night. But I have seen several bucks so far, 4 of which will score 140 or better and one pushing 160 and a buddy drove by my prop the other night and saw a 180 crossing over onto my prop. Most of the bucks I have seen are still running together, but are keeping close to does and one night I had a 4.5 year old and a 2.5 sparing all night long. Also, scrapes are starting to show up everywhere on my prop. Hope this helps you guys out. Good luck everyone.

I hunt in Martin County, on opening day I saw six does.

First one I scared up from the corn field and she took off into the woods. Had two close by bust me as I was half-way up the tree in my climber and another walk by in the afternoon as I was climbing up.

Had two at 12 yards away just passed legal shooting light.

Went again Thursday and watched edge of woods and cornfield, nothing all day.

Saturday without seeing any.

They seem to be moving mid-day and well after dark.... saw a nice 8-10 pointer cross the highway after I'd packed up and left.

Might be something to these solar calendars after all :D

i shot this doe at three yards this morning from 15 feet in the tree with a rage 2 blade broadhead, she ran 30 yards, don't know how with the huge holes. the exit came in the armpit in the chest since she was right under me, but made a good shot right behind the shoulder blade... taking 2 weeks off hoping for the corn to be taken out and cool weather to get the MR.

Had some great land to hunt next to Jasper Pulaski section 8 (best section for big bucks). Landowner has the crabs and for no reason told my cousin to get the stands off the land. His perogative, but he cited that I gave the other landowner grief when I saw him putting a stand up - no such thing happened. I know better than to be like that when no matter what - never the less when hunting someone else's private property. Turns out he just wanted an excuse to have my cousin take down the stands - oh well.

I still have a few honey-holes to hunt. I may hunt just on the other side of the creek in Jasper Pulaski. They pulled a 24 pointer out of there 12 days ago. Nice!

I was out in the 40 mph winds on Sunday and it was horrible. Last few minutes my cousin and I left our stands and waited at a crossing. I spent about 10 minutes in the first row of a corn field and he shacked up in the corner behind some weeds next to a creek.

After obvious shooting time was over, I headed out of the corn and back toward the truck- - a deer had seen me and headed back toward my cousin. He took a shot and we spent the next 45 minutes looking for blood, his arrow, etc.

My cousin shouldn't have taken the shot, but I should have ask him if it kicked or hunched- - I don't think he even came close. No arrow, no blood, nothing.

I think he either shot high or low and the arrow buried itself in the ground.

That deer would have been a total of 2 yards from me had I not started walking back. But what the heck, it was past shooting time. I think I did the right thing.
