horst
Tofer, for 200$ you can get an American Knight and probably still have money left for powder. I bought mine clearanced for 138$, it was the whole kit that came with everything you need, I put a scope on and mounts on on it and it came to right around 200$ for the whole works.Just an idea

MadHuntinPastor
Re: new to ml Either way you now is the time to get one durung clearances!! Personally....I first got a cheap Traditions Deerhunter percussion cap a couple years ago Just to get me into the sport. First gun I owned! Helped me learn the sport of ML and I've taken deer with it. I just bought my BD last week and look forward to using it. I didn't want to buy a cheap inline to start with so I bought the percussion cap for $99. My buddy held out and got the gun with starter kit for $69. Check around and you might get a great deal for a kit without taking a hit financially.
too_pointer
Re: new to ml tofer, do you have any hunting buddies who own muzzleloaders ? It would be nice for you to shoot a few different ones before buying one. Maybe you have already shot some, I don't know. The ideas the guys threw at you are good ones. The TC Black Diamond is a darn nice muzzleloader in your price range. It sounds like an inline would be more to your liking, in most cases they are by far the easiest to clean, also offer the best weather protection of the primer. You might try looking through some of the older posts in here on this subject also. Good luck with whatever you decide on.! too_pointer

Guest nubs
Re: new to ml Welcome to Muzzleloading. It's a great sport and gives the hunter an extra season to bag that trophy. I think you will enjoy hunting, with less pressure than gun hunting. As far as which gun to buy, that depends on your budget and likes. I see nothing wrong with the New Frontier, it should be a fine starter. One thing about muzzleloading thats important, keep your gun clean. Thats the primary cause of misfire and in-accuracy. MZ's take alittle more time to mess with than rifles, but they can be very rewarding. Good luck and have fun!
AJ
Re: new to ml I don't agree with the buy a cheap one to see if I like it. I say get a good gun as it will give you less headaches, be higher quality, and enhance your shooting fun. If you decide you don't like to shoot ML guns, sell it. Its harder to sell a junk ML than a good quality one.

A bargain is no bargain at all if you have to buy it twice. Fortunately, there are several well-made but economical choices available today. The NEF Sidekick is one, made in the good old USA-- there's your decent shotgun action, if that is your preference. The T/C Black Diamonds are being sold cheaper than ever before-- they are well made guns; the plunger action is somewhat harder to clean than a Knight Wolverine, however. If you can find a deal on a Disc Elite, they are amazingly good shooters with great triggers, balance, and as good of a composite stock as you'll find on a smokepole. Heck, if you are in IL-- I'd even sell you a NIB Disc Elite rather than see you pay the same dollars for a whole lot less.
