Strut10
..........in record time.I did about 1/5 - 1/6 of an acre of a powerline (295' x 25') where it crosses my ridgetop. Last night I started at 6:00 to get the plowing done. The plow was a mile over the hill in my brother's barn. Went and got it (forgot to take a 2nd pin for the toplink, so I brought it home with a 3/8" x 4 1/2" bolt through the toplink) and turned the ground over pretty quickly. Took the plow back over to the barn then went another 1/2 mile to borrow a buddy's 6' disc (can't fit ours on my woods roads). Got there to hook up just at dark and had to do some moving of the disc's lift pins to get it to fit the bigger tractor. Got it hooked up and brought back home.Tonight I left at 6:00 again with 100 lbs of 19-19-19, 320 lbs of lime and 2 sacks of Green Patch Plus. Drove the Jeep up on the hill and hand cast the lime and fertilizer from a 5 gallon bucket. Went back to my Dad's and got the tractor/disc and seed spinner. Back up on the hill (over 1/2 a mile each way and REALLY steep to get to) and chopped her all up then picked some rocks & roots and spun the seed on. Ran the disc the 2 miles or so back to its home, unhooked and switched the lift pins back again. Ran the tractor back to the shed and was done.Total time invested...... 6 hours. Actual working time (minus all the running and jacking) about 3 hours. They're calling for rain tomorrow and through the weekend. I may get a little buckwheat seed tomorrow to toss on top Saturday just for good measure. I think it still has time to come up and make some green. Her's a pic of about 1/2 the plot turned and ready for lime & fertilizer.
wtnhunt
Looks like a great spot for a plot Don. Good luck with the green patch plus.

dogdoc
you'll be happy with the GPP--makes a very palatable plot. You'll have time for the buckwheat to sprout but it will die on your first freeze--it's not very cold tolerant at all.
Strut10
Here's the problem............ I just realized that the buckwjheat's going to have to lay on top uncovered. don't know if it's worth the time and effort and money if I'm not going to cover it. Strut10
I actually ended up not doing the buckwheat deal. So I guess we'll see if the Biologic is all it's cracked up to be. I have always formulated my own mixes from the mill before. Never tried a store-boughten concoction.
Strut10
The Biologic is up. 4 days and it's up........probably 3 days because some of the sprouts are 1/2" high or close to it.

wtnhunt
Warm soil, rain = quick germination. Yep. The brassicas mixes we have planted here in the past have always popped up very quick. I would venture to say it would be abnormal for there not to be germination within a week granted you have enough moisture.
toddyboman
cool! Nice quick work!! Quick germination is always a bonus :D:D
Strut10
Checked the plot out yesterday. Sure wish it'd rain. The wheat/oats are up about 1 1/2". The Other (clover and/or brassica) is up 1/4" or so. The place is covered up with deer tracks and even a scrape on the edge. But there's no rain in the 7-day forecast and we're getting to where it could frost (although no in the forecast either) any time. I'm a-feared this stuff's not going to get far enough off the ground to fly before Ma Nature zaps it.
JJL
I'm going to church this morning Don. I'll say an extra prayer that you get some moisture.

Flintlock1776
Nice and good luck. Can you put a ladder stand or climber on that pole. If you could, I would! Keep us posted.

Not much cover for concealment on an electric pole. There's a freshly opened scrape on the left side of the plot back toward the Jeep from the pole. There just so happens to be a nice big straight tree about 20 feet back into the woods on the right side of the plot straight across from the scrape. I hunted off poles like that, get a great view of the entire cut and deer never seemed to be bugged by me being there;)
Strut10
I hunted off poles like that, get a great view of the entire cut and deer never seemed to be bugged by me being there;) That'd never fly at my place. They'd have me picked off like I had flashing Christmas lights on me. The tree I have picked out will allow me to go up 20 feet easily which will put me above some lower limbs. Usually when you're above the lowest hanging limbs, you're good to go. I'll be 5-8 yards off the near edge of the plot and 18 yards or so from the scrape. Backstraps!!! Tominator
Kind of thought hunting off a utility pole would be illegal anyway, but I'm not positive about that.
