fly
I have no problems with either, just wondering what you all prefer? I imagine most of us generally try to eat the game we harvest, but what if CWD or something like that made it to risky to eat the animals we so love to hunt? Thanks Frank
texastrophies
I am quite sure with the cost I incur going elk hunting, that I must be doing it for sport, cause if I was doing for food, I could just stay home and eat like a king. Not sure if they had CWD what I would do. Would probably continue to hunt, since I haven't killed one yet. If I had a few under my belt, it might be different. coorsdrifter
I do it for food mostly.I haven't bought meat from the grocery store in 5yrs.Just my personal preference.I have also started processing my deer(alot cheaper). But to each their own. Jorden
I would say I do it for sport because I do not need the meat...not that I dont eat the meat if I shoot something:D, just that is not my primary reason for going hunting. mule659
Do it for both...I dont NEED the meat to say but man I sure do love it! On the sport end yes I will hold out for a good buck and pass on smaller deer I would shoot if it was just for meat...however I have been known to shoot a doe or two in my time for the freezer. stevebeilgard
sport has always been my number 1 thing. but the meat is a great bi-product of what i love....
silvertip_co
Both. Sport first then food. Yum comes last
BR44
Probably both-mostly to put food on the table AND, getting out in the outdoors to get away from the hustle/bustle of society.
davetucker
I would have to say that i make a sport out of feeding my family!!Wish i could say that i don't need the meat!!If i can save then the more i can spend on hunting,fishing,sledding,ect..I do spend lots of time scouting and didn't tag out last yr!!Here in the part of maine i'm from the population of deer is 2 per square mile!!Not that impressive!!If there is a nice little six pointer or so i usaully get the wife or last yr i got to have my boy helpwith the freezer deer!!LOL!!But the wife does usually take our freezer bucks cuz she's not really in it that hard!!She just wants me to tell her were any deer are and lets get it over with, but i'm working on that to!! Dawg
I do it for both I guess, I love the thrill that a cool fall or winter morning brings, the sounds of wildlife in the woods, man that is better that any drug out there. I also like the full sensation that my belly fills when I get through scarfing down some good ole back strap and venny steaks!!! If the game in the area I hunt had CWD.............I probably would hunt somewhere else. Couldn't kill something just for the fun of it. elkoholic
With the cost of hunting related equipment, the price of licenses and tags and the cost of gas, it is pretty obvious that one could buy a lot of meat for what is invested in hunting. I am not sure I would call it sport, but I surely hunt just for the love of it and the meat is an added bonus.
Texan_Til_I_Die
I spend at least $3000 every year on hunting. Some years A LOT more. I could easily replace the wild game with ribeye and still have money left over. Definitely sport!
