wtnhunt
Lot of good rifles out there. Best thing I know to tell you is to go and shoulder each one of them and see which one feels best to you. Personally I am kind of partial to remington model 700's, nothing wrong with browning or ruger bolt rifles either. Just a matter of preference, I have been hunting with a 700 adl in .270 for quite a few years now.
Shaun_300
I don't know a lot about the Browning X-bolt, it does look very similar to the A-bolt which are great rifles. Nothing wrong with the Rugars either. In my opinion though, I'd go with the trusty Remington 700. I know these rifles have been known and trusted for their reliability and accuracy for years. We've got two of them with no complaints, awesome rifles! Like William said though, it's a matter of preference. Pick the one you feel fits you the best and you like the best. None of those three are bad choices.
Hoosierbuck
A buddy just got a Browning X-bolt in .243 and he really likes it. It is really nicely finished. The Ruger Hawkeye got great reviews. Lever actions are cool and nostalgic. I can't see how you lose any way you cut it. Try to fondle them all and see what feels best. Orion_70
I own a ruger M77 that I've hunted with for years and it's never failed me and very accurate. If you have the opportunity, handle each one and see which fits you better.
redgreen
Have you considered the Ruger #1's? I love them, myself.
bruse
I prefer Rem 700's myself. The ruger's are ok but you will have limited scope mounts. bruse
mailmanmark
New rifle Don't count the Tikka and Savage out. They are two of the best shooting rifles out there and cheaper than the above mentioned. It's all a matter of preference. Just go out and "kick some tires" until you find one that feels good. Good luck. BTW .270:D Good choice.................
bluelund79
I''ll second the Tikka and Savage, I traded the Ruger M77 Mark II I had for my Tikka, and retired my Winchester 1917 for a Savage. Really good triggers on both of the rifle, so good in fact I am having a hard time deciding which to use on opening day of rifle season. I handled one of the new x bolt Brownings, very nice fit and finish...See which rifle fits you the best as well as bet fit in budget...Good luck in your choice, Eric
Rinky
If I were to choose, Id go with a savage LE series, but thats a totally different caliber BUT it comes free floated heavy barreled with all the tack-driving goodies for very little money. Flintlock1776
I'd stick with a bolt. Browning has a great reputation.
Jeramie
Its all about choices. Ruger, Tikka, Savage, Reminton, Winchester, etc..... They are all great rifles. I own several different brands and all have something different I like about them. Cost is also a major factor. If youre wanting an affordable, great shooting rifle look to the Savage. Remington makes a great (legendary) rifle. The rugers are great rifles, however the rings are WAY overpriced. Tikka, they just have great quality. I think if you start holding the rifles you will quickly find out which you prefer!
