fly
As a kid and even now as an adult I've never found the passion for fishing in IL like I have for deer hunting. That is until I vent on vacation to Colorado with my family. Me and my wife learned to fly fish for trout and were hooked for life. To me there's just something different about fly fishing for wild trout. I'd say it's almost magical to me. I was wondering if this feeling was unique to me (and my wife) or if anyone else felt this way???
hammerforged
flyerla - I am right there with you. There is indeed something magical about standing in knee-deep water at sunrise and watching the world wake up around you.

muggs
A lot of people feel the same way, that's why fly fishing has inspired so many good books (like "A River Runs Through It" and "A River Never Sleeps"). There's something poetic about it. For me, I just like standing in the water's stream, holding the line in my other had and really just sort of connecting to the rhythm of the river. JJL
We've got a few locals around here that are infected BIG-TIME with the fly-fishing disease. They'll pack 100 lbs. of gear 20 miles into the back country to catch a handful of 12" brookies that they release. I sure hope that they enjoy it.....they must. I on the other hand will grab my rod, couple extra flies and a bottle of water and head to the golf course pond and catch 18"-22" rainbows all night long and have all of the fun I need. To each his own.

Man I gotta get me a course soon! 100 lbs. and 20 miles seems like a heavy order, but if I had the right person(s) to go with, I'd be up for it. (As long as it wasn't during archery deer season). RangerClay
Guilty! It's getting so the only time I dig out my spinning rod is when I go with the kids. Until you have hooked a steelhead on a 7x tippet, you have not truely experienced fishing.
Illinois59
I just returned from fishing the Madison river in Montana as well as McCoy spring creek near Dillon, MT. Great fishing, oh by the way, got an 8 point buck with the front end of the truck on the way to the Madison, i couldnt avoid him.
