jcs3344
Shot a doe this evening. Gave her about 30 mins, out down got my arrow and it was covered in blood. I called my dad since my hunting partner wasnt there. I started tracting and she was bleeding good. I walked the trail pretty fast with blood poured on the ground. About 60s into the track blood stops ! It took us about 30 mins and i found one more drop of blood about 20 yards from the last blood.. we looked for 2 hours and didnt find anymore blood. THis is the first time that i havnt found a deer that day of with my bow. i feel sick and have a headache. Im going back in the morning to look for her, i dont know what if i will be able to use the meat but i want to at least find her..
fly
Bowhunt long enough and it happens. It's always a shame. Not sure about the temps in NC, but if it's anything like IL the temps are way to warm to think about table fare. Probably not much of a help, but I'm glad to hear you don't take it lightly. I know a lot of people that wouldn't be concerned at all about shooting a doe and not recovering her.
jbeck
When we hunt, sometimes things like this will happen. I know it doesn't make you feel much better, but the only way to avoid it is to quit hunting and that isn't an option. Hang in there, learn from this experience and maybe it won't happen again for a long time. Jeff
wtnhunt
That is too bad, but it happens to us all. Around here recovery almost has to be the same day/night of the shot. Just too many yotes around to leave one overnight.

jcs3344
went back the next morning, me and my dad looked for about 1 1/2 hours and did not find any blood or the deer... we walked a good ways in all directions and did not see her, i do not have any idea what happened... i have no idea how this deer made it as far as she did in the first place and the to stop bleeding. I know shes died. but its bad that i couldnt find her...who knows i did what i could..
AdvantageTimberLou
It indeeds happens and usually ever hunter has experienced it at one point. Deer are very tough and she very well could be alive. She could have clotted up and will be back in the herd very soon. Never underestimate the will to survive for a whitetail deer. Sorry about this but it keeps you going back. Best of luck in the future.
GWSmith
She either survived or she did'nt. While she may not be where you wanted her to be..if she died she wont go to waste in the outdoors circle of life.
JimT
I lost one a couple years ago. Hit it a little back I believe then it started to rain about an hour later. Major bummer but thats part of hunting I guess.
Bowtech_archer07
Not sure where you hit her, but an organ might have moved over and stopped the bleeding and allowed the wound to clot. It's bad to hit a deer and not find it, but everyone has it happen to them if they hunt long enough. Does it suck? Yea, that's why nobody ever wants it to happen, but it does. Hopefully it doesn't happen again for a very long time. Sorry to hear about your luck, best of luck to you for the rest of the season. jcs3344
yea, i keep replaying the shot in my mind, and from where i remember seeing the lumenok hit her, i either caught the back of the lungs, or hit between the lungs and the liver, either way i would have thought u deer couldnt have went far with the amount of the blood and with the leg kicks, which ive always heard has told a lung hit, but who knows, sometime stopped the bleeding... just makes you wonder the next time you stand and put the release on if its gonna happen again...hopefully this weekend i can put one in the heart and get my confidence back
